Introduction
The Wisconsin State Public Defenders office (SPD) is currently recruiting to fill one Accountant-Advanced (Limited Term Employee) vacancy in our Budget & Fiscal Unit. This position is located at our Administration office in Madison and will work 40 hours per week.
Of special note regarding Limited Term Employment (LTE) employment with the State of Wisconsin:
This position is responsible for managing complex financial activities involving diverse funding sources and ensuring the integrity of the agency's fiscal records.

Starting salary will be between $36.00-$41.00/hour.
Job Details

- LTE positions are not civil service classified positions, do not give any rights to a permanent civil service classified position, and do not lead to permanent status.
- LTE positions are not eligible for the State of Wisconsin health insurance coverage, the Wisconsin Retirement System contributions, and do not received paid time off.
- Wisconsin residency is required for LTE positions.
- No more than 1039 hours may be worked in one year.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
- Senior-level accounting and/or financial management (e.g., maintaining the integrity of complex fiscal records, ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), etc.)
- Utilizing enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems (e.g., Oracle PeopleSoft, SAP, Workday, etc.) to manage financial transactions (e.g. accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger maintenance, etc.)
- Preparing and certifying complex financial reports (e.g., Annual Comprehensive Financial Reports (ACFT), high-level financial statements, year-end closing processes, etc.)
- Working within a municipal, county, state or federal agency environment (e.g., knowledge of state controller operations, state procurement laws, statutory allotment processes, etc.)
- Professional licensure as a CPA, Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM) or a Master's Degree in accounting or Finance
- Administering senior-level procurement activities (e.g., RFTs, simplified bids, etc.) and managing federal status reports (FSRs) to ensure the allowability of grant-funded expenditures
- Maintaining an Internal Control Plan
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g. VLOOKUPs, Pivot Table, etc.) and the ability to analyze large datasets
