Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Lumber Grader to join our hardwood sawmill team. The Lumber Grader will be responsible for inspecting, grading, and sorting hardwood lumber according to established industry standards and customer specifications. This position plays a key role in maintaining product quality and ensuring customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities (Not Limited To)
- Inspect each board for quality, defects, and proper dimensions
- Grade lumber according to NHLA hardwood grading rules and customer requirements
- Sort lumber by species, grade, and size for storage or shipment
- Ensure accurate marking of grades on each piece
- Work safely and efficiently in a fast-paced production environment
- Communicate effectively with sawmill, yard, and shipping personnel
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications
- Required: Experience with hardwood lumber grading and familiarity with NHLA rules
- Attention to detail and ability to make accurate grading decisions quickly
- Good physical stamina and ability to lift, carry, and stand for long periods
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and team-oriented attitude
- Ability to work in varying temperatures and environmental conditions
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. repeatedly
- Prolonged standing and walking
- Ability to work in dusty, noisy, and variable temperature environments
