Position Summary/Objective:
Responsible for setting up and operating CNC machinery to produce precision tooling components. Ensures proper tooling, programming, and machining practices are followed to achieve quality and efficiency. Supports foundry tooling and patternmaking operations through machining expertise.
Essential Functions:
- Perform machine set-ups independently, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
- Set up and manage tooling for machining operations.
- Run and monitor multiple machines as needed.
- Operate micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring tools to verify accuracy.
- Collaborate with supervisors and team members to ensure production quality and timelines.

Physical Demands:
Office/Shop Environment Work:
- Prolonged standing at machining centers and workbenches; frequent walking within the machine shop.
- Frequent use of CNC machines, hand tools, and measuring instruments requiring repetitive motions of wrists, hands, and fingers.
- Regular talking and hearing for communication in team settings.
Work Requirements:
- Frequently required to lift, move, and position tooling, parts, and equipment up to 50 pounds.
- Occasional climbing of stairs, bending, kneeling, or reaching to access machinery or parts.
Environmental Conditions:
- Work performed primarily in a shop environment with exposure to noise, dust, oils, and temperature variations.
- Appropriate PPE is provided and required according to company policy.
Essential Function Test – Anderson Global (All Shop Employees):
All union shop employees must complete and be able to perform the Anderson Global Essential Function Test (All Shop Employees), which evaluates functional fitness for typical shop tasks, including:
- Lifting and carrying of patterns/tools and miscellaneous items up to 25 lbs (various ranges).
- Pushing/pulling forces (e.g., hoists ~100 lbs force; skids ~35 lbs; tooling ~100 lbs).
- Reaching (over-shoulder, overhead, below knees, and forward-extended) for short durations.
- Gripping/pinching benchmarks (gross grasp ~65 lbs; hook grasp ~65 lbs; tripod pinch ~15 lbs; 2-point pinch ~5 lbs).
- Postural tasks including standing, walking, kneeling/stooping, horizontal abduction, and stair navigation.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- 10 years CNC machining experience.
- Horizontal 4-axis and 5-axis machining experience preferred.
- Experience with Mazatrol, Fanuc, and Hiedenhiem controls.
- Mastercam programming experience preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-based environment.
- Strong planning and organizational skills.
