Job Description
The Service Manager is accountable for the fiscal performance, operations, and growth of the Electrical Service Department. This role manages dispatch, service electricians, small-estimate work, departmental budgeting, customer relationships, and continuous improvement to deliver safe, timely, and profitable service outcomes.
What You Will Do:
- Oversee day-to-day service operations: dispatching, scheduling, job tracking, and closeouts.
- Supervise, coach, and develop service electricians and dispatcher(s); lead recruiting and onboarding.
- Produce and manage small-to-medium estimates (typically under $10,000) and support larger proposal efforts.
- Monitor labor utilization, job costs, department profitability, and implement corrective actions.
- Prepare and manage budgets, purchase orders, and subcontract agreements; review and validate invoices.
- Plan and coordinate outages, shutdowns, and field activities; generate look-ahead schedules.
- Perform field visits to verify quality, scope adherence, and customer communication.
- Enforce Scope of Work compliance, quality control plans, and contract requirements; submit CQC reports.
- Lead safety practices onsite, conduct weekly safety talks, and enforce OSHA and company policies.
- Identify, estimate, and implement change orders; maintain accurate project records.
- Use construction and service software (e.g., ServiceTrade/FieldEdge, Procore, Primavera P6, OnScreen Takeoff) to manage work and schedules.
What You Will Bring:
- Requires 3–5 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training; 5 years electrical experience (residential, commercial, or light-industrial service) preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable building codes and standards.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
- Knowledge of building systems (architectural, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical).
- Understanding of construction sequencing, durations, and differing site/building conditions.
- Knowledge of OSHA safety policies, emergency procedures, and general safety practices.
- Familiarity with value engineering and common items identified.
- Understanding of owner contracts and ability to implement contract requirements on site.
- Understanding of different contract types and what to include in vendor agreements.
- Knowledge of construction labor rates and what is included in them.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office.
- Experience with service and construction software (examples: ServiceTrade, FieldEdge, EBM, ProCore, Primavera P6, OnScreen Takeoff).
- Experience in dispatch coordination and/or small job estimating.
What You Will Experience:
- Primarily office-based work, including extended computer use and regular phone communication.
- Occasional lifting and movement of objects up to 15 lbs.
- Repetitive hand, wrist, and finger movements; reaching, grasping, and handling materials or equipment.
- Time may be split between office and field settings. Field visits may include exposure to construction site conditions, including varying temperatures, weather, and job site hazards.
