SUMMARY: The Head Racquet Sports Professional is the lead racquet sports authority responsible for overseeing programming, instruction, staff coordination, and player development across all racquet sports offerings. Working under the direction of senior management, this role provides leadership, instruction, and strategic direction to ensure high‑quality experiences for participants of all ages and skill levels.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program Leadership & Management
- Serve as the primary racquet sports professional for the organization
- Plan, organize, and oversee racquet sports programs, leagues, lessons, clinics, and events
- Assist in setting program goals, schedules, pricing, and participation targets
- Ensure programs align with organizational policies and objectives
Instruction & Player Development
- Provide high‑quality instruction through private lessons, group clinics, and camps
- Develop curriculum and progression pathways for beginners through advanced players
- Evaluate player skill levels and recommend appropriate programming
- Mentor assistant professionals and instructional staff
Staff Supervision & Training
- Supervise assistant pros, part‑time instructors, interns, and program staff
- Assist with hiring, onboarding, scheduling, and performance feedback
- Lead staff meetings and development sessions
- Maintain professional standards of instruction, safety, and customer service
Events, Leagues & Competition
- Coordinate leagues, ladders, tournaments, and special events
- Serve as tournament director or match coordinator when applicable
- Ensure fair play, rule compliance, and positive participant experience
Customer & Member Engagement
- Act as a visible ambassador for racquet sports programs and facility offerings
- Build strong relationships with players, members, families, and guests
- Address inquiries, feedback, and concerns in a professional manner
- Promote programs through direct communication and community engagement
Facility & Equipment Oversight
- Assist with court scheduling and space management
- Ensure safe playing conditions and proper equipment use
- Coordinate basic equipment maintenance and inventory
- Collaborate with operations staff on facility needs
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Advanced knowledge and demonstrated proficiency in racquet sports (tennis, pickleball)
- Experience with Great Base Tennis Education
- Prior experience as a racquet sports professional, instructor, or coach
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and special events
- CPR/AED certification or ability to obtain
- Professional, reliable, and customer‑focused
- Strong instructional and interpersonal abilities
- Organized with attention to detail
- Comfortable leading groups and mentoring staff
- Passion for growing participation and improving player experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Professional certification (USPTA, PTR, PPR, or equivalent)
- Experience supervising staff or managing programs
- Tournament or league management experience
- Background in recreation, sports management, or education
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
- Indoor and outdoor courts
- Combination of on‑court instruction, planning, and administrative tasks
- Moderate physical activity, including standing, hitting, and light lifting
COMPENSATION:
- Competitive salary, hourly rate, and/or lesson commission
