Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Senior Well Driller to lead and execute complex drilling operations across residential, commercial, agricultural, and municipal water projects throughout New England. This is a senior, hands-on role for a career professional with strong mechanical aptitude, extensive drilling experience, and the ability to operate and manage heavy equipment safely and efficiently on active construction sites.
The Senior Well Driller is responsible for owning drilling execution in the field, making real-time technical decisions, maintaining strict safety and regulatory compliance, and delivering high-quality, code-compliant wells from setup through completion.
Key ResponsibilitiesDrilling & Technical Execution
- Lead and execute water well drilling operations using rotary, air/mud, and down-the-hole hammer methods
- Perform vertical and horizontal drilling activities as required by project scope and site conditions
- Drill residential, commercial, irrigation, geothermal, and high-capacity water wells
- Install casing, screens, pitless adapters, seals, and grout in accordance with state and local codes
- Conduct well development, test pumping, yield verification, and disinfection
- Evaluate subsurface conditions and adjust drilling methods, tooling, and sequencing in real time
Heavy Equipment & Mechanical Operations
- Operate drilling rigs, excavators, water trucks, forklifts, compressors, and related support equipment
- Perform mechanical inspections and routine maintenance on drilling and support equipment
- Troubleshoot mechanical and operational issues to minimize downtime and maintain productivity
- Coordinate mobilization, setup, and demobilization of equipment at job sites
Site Leadership & Safety
- Serve as the technical lead on-site, setting the standard for safe and efficient drilling operations
- Enforce site safety procedures in compliance with OSHA standards and company protocols
- Supervise and mentor junior crew members, ensuring adherence to safety, quality, and operational expectations
- Coordinate with site supervisors, general contractors, and other trades to maintain workflow and sequencing
Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain accurate well logs, drilling records, equipment usage logs, and safety documentation
- Ensure compliance with Rhode Island, Connecticut, and Massachusetts well codes, DEP/DOH regulations, and permitting requirements
- Coordinate inspections and respond to regulatory feedback as needed
Required Experience & Qualifications
- 7 years of hands-on well drilling experience in construction or utility environments
- Proven experience operating heavy equipment such as drilling rigs, excavators, forklifts, and water trucks
- Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to troubleshoot and perform basic equipment repairs
- Experience with horizontal drilling techniques and utility or pipeline installation is a plus
- Solid understanding of OSHA safety standards related to construction and drilling operations
- Prior construction site experience required
- Valid driver's license required; CDL strongly preferred
- Ability to work in physically demanding outdoor environments while maintaining a safety-first mindset
- Strong communication skills and the ability to lead effectively in the field
