Responsibilities
What You’ll Do as a Crew Leader
As a Crew Leader at Winkler Tree & Lawn Care, you will guide and support a crew performing residential, municipal, and commercial tree trimming, removals, pruning, and lawn care services. You’ll ensure safe, high‑quality work while delivering exceptional customer experience.
Leadership & Crew Management
- Lead daily operations for your assigned crew, ensuring safe, efficient, and professional work practices.
- Train, coach, and mentor crew members, including new hires, lead from the from the front mentality.
- Assign tasks based on skill level, job requirements, and safety considerations.
- Monitor performance and provide feedback to support growth and accountability.
- Maintain accurate crew information and communicate availability or safety concerns to management.
Safety & Compliance
- Conduct daily job briefings, safety checks, and on‑site training.
- Enforce company safety standards and immediately report unsafe conditions or incidents.
- Identify jobsite hazards and implement appropriate safeguards.
- Make informed decisions regarding work delays due to weather or safety risks.
Field Operations
- Perform and direct residential, municipal, and commercial tree trimming, pruning, and removals using climbing or aerial lift techniques.
- Show proficiency in operating mini skids, bucket trucks, chippers, stump grinders, and have experience in crane assisted removals.
- Maintain clean, organized vehicles, tools, and job sites.
- Interpret work orders and ensure all tasks meet Winkler’s quality standards.
Customer Interaction
- Communicate clearly and professionally with homeowners about work being performed.
- Address questions, concerns, and access needs with courtesy and confidence.
- Represent Winkler with professionalism and respect in every customer interaction.
Administrative & Reporting
- Document completed work, incidents, equipment issues, and crew performance.
- Assist with incident investigations and damage claims when needed.
- Monitor resource use to support cost‑effective operations.
Emergency Response
- Respond to storm‑related or urgent residential tree hazards when required.
- Use sound judgment to protect people and property in high‑pressure situations.
Qualifications
What You Bring
- Minimum 3 years of experience in tree care, arboriculture, or related outdoor services.
- Skilled in tree climbing, rigging, and aerial lift operation.
- Ability to identify common tree species, pests, diseases, and hazardous conditions.
- Valid driver’s license; CDL preferred but not required.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem‑solving abilities.
- Commitment to safety, professionalism, and high‑quality workmanship.
Physical Demands
Ability to:
- Lift 50 lbs. to shoulder height or higher.
- Push or pull up to 50 lbs.
- Walk, stand, or climb for extended periods on uneven terrain.
- Work in varying weather conditions (heat, cold, humidity, rain).
- Operate two‑handed tools and equipment safely.
- Perform tree ascent and descent using ropes and saddles.
