Salary Range: Service_Salary_Schedule_2024_Annual.pdf (core-docs.s3.amazonaws.com) based on experience and education level per Putnam County Board of Education salary schedule plus a competitive benefits package to include: PEIA insurance, retirement, life insurance, and free vision and dental insurance.
Job Description: The School Bus Operator is responsible for operating school buses and other school transportation vehicles as provided by the West Virginia Board of Education.
Qualifications:
- Holds a high school diploma or GED or TASC
- Holds a Commercial Driver’s License, Class B, Passenger and Airbrake Endorsements
- Passes the required physical examination
- Has three years of experience as a licensed driver
- Passes the Department of Motor Vehicles Driving Record Check
- Passes the Drug/Alcohol Screening
- Completes 40 hours of required classroom training and 20 hours of behind the wheel training.
- Holds First Aid/CPR Certification
- Holds a West Virginia School Bus Operator’s Certificate

Responsibilities: The School Bus Operator shall have the responsibilities and duties as outlined in The Putnam County Schools Job Description Handbook.
*Location And Length Of Route(S) May Vary Determined by Coordinator of Transportation Dependent Upon the number and/or location of students requiring transportation services.
Effective Employment Date: January 21, 2026
Daily Schedule: Pre-Trip – 15 Minutes prior to pullout time (AM only)
Currently - Pull Out Time (AM) – 6:15 am - 8:00 am
Pull Out Time (PM) – 4:45 pm - 4:10 pm
Post-Trip – 15 Minutes
