SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE
The Assistant Mechanic works with the Head Mechanic in the repairing and maintenance golf course maintenance equipment. The Assistant Mechanic also assists in maintaining a clean service area, is highly focused on providing superior service, and places safety procedures as a top priority.

- Communicates any needs or problems relating to maintenance or repair of equipment with the Head Mechanic and/or Assistant Superintendent.
- Work with GCM team as needed to maintain the golf course as directed by Golf Course Superintendent and Senior Assistant Superintendent
- Inspects, diagnoses, adjusts, and repairs mechanical defects/failures in various pieces of Golf Course Maintenance Equipment on a regular basis.
- Assists with prioritizing equipment repair and maintenance work.
- Sets up and modifies new equipment as needed.
- Repairs and adjusts engines and cutting mechanisms on various heavy and light mowing equipment.
- Assist in maintaining reels and rotary blades when directed by the Head Mechanic
- Keeps maintenance equipment fueled, oiled, and inspected; and performs related tasks as required.
- Changes and repairs tires.
- Assists in ordering parts as needed.
- Assists in maintaining a clean, organized, and safe shop compound.
- May require adjusted work schedules to meet deadlines.
- Regular attendance, flexibility and timeliness are required.
COMPETENCIES
- Working knowledge of the general operation of gasoline, diesel, and electric equipment
- Knowledge of the proper methods of servicing golf course equipment; and the repair and adjustment of power mowing equipment.
- Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the profession.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written direction.
- Mechanical ability: ability to use common mechanical tools.
- Assistance in maintaining a clean and well-organized parts inventory room.
- Adherence to the proper recycling and/or disposal of various oils, compounds, and other fluids (anti-freeze, oil filters, etc.).
- Assistance in an effective, daily inspection of golf course maintenance equipment.
- Knowledge of gas and stick welding.
- Willingness to learn about equipment maintenance on a golf course
PHYSICAL & ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions for this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, and crouching. Must frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds. Must have the ability to work in a variety of weather as well as a shop without climate control. Must be physically present.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING
- High School Diploma or equivalent. Requires ability to read and write.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a garage mechanic or at least 1-year experience as a golf course mechanic.
- Possession of a valid driver's license
