Duties
- Prepare and serve meals in accordance with dietary guidelines, ensuring adherence to specific dietary requirements for residents with varying health needs.
- Assist with food production tasks such as chopping, cooking, plating, and portioning to support the kitchen team.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen and dining areas following food safety standards and JCAHO (Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations) protocols.
- Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently, including ovens, mixers, dishwashers, and other culinary tools.
- Handle food safely by practicing proper food handling techniques, manual handling procedures, and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Support meal service by bussing tables, cleaning dishes, and ensuring a tidy dining environment for residents.
- Follow safe lifting practices during heavy lifting tasks to prevent injury while moving supplies or equipment.
- Assist with inventory management by checking stock levels and reporting shortages or expired items promptly.
- Uphold workplace safety standards through regular sanitation routines and adherence to health regulations.
- Collaborate with nursing staff to accommodate special dietary needs and ensure nutritional goals are met for each resident.
Experience
- Previous experience working in assisted living facilities, nursing homes, hospitals, or the food industry is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated culinary experience with a focus on food preparation and meal service.
- Familiarity with dietary department operations including adhering to dietary requirements and nutrition guidelines.
- Knowledge of food safety practices, sanitation procedures, and safe lifting techniques.
- Experience working with geriatric patients or in healthcare settings is advantageous.
- Strong time management skills to efficiently handle multiple tasks within a busy kitchen environment.
- Customer service skills that promote positive interactions with residents and staff alike.
- Basic math proficiency for portion control, inventory tracking, and recipe adjustments.
- Certification in CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) preferred but not required; willingness to obtain certification is encouraged.
