Job Title: Student Advisor Specialist

*This position will serve the Central Texas and Panhandle regions.*


Retirees of the Texas Teachers Retirement System (TRS) may apply.
Consistent with district policy SD-7.17 “Employment of Retirees,” selected applicants are responsible for reimbursing the district, through payroll deduction, for the current rate of all TRS pension or TRS Care surcharges. As of September 1, 2025, the TRS pension surcharge rate is 16.5% and the TRS Care surcharge is $535/month.

Salary Plan


Primary Purpose:
Assist the Administrator of Assessment, Advisement and Records in the day-today operations, development, and maintenance of the student advisement program for the district.


Qualifications


Education/Certification/Experience:


Master's degree from a college or university accredited by an organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or by the United States Department of Education (USDE).


Standard School Counselor certificate issued by SBEC.


OR


State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) Mid-Management/Administrator/Principal Certificate, or other appropriate administrative certificate.


Three years full-time, wage-earning experience as a principal, student advisor, school counselor, teacher or trainer in the education environment.


This position requires personal technology that will enable the completion of job duties and responsibilities when working remotely.


Special Knowledge/Skills:


Ability to communicate ideas and instructions clearly and concisely.


Knowledge of school district organization, operations, policies, and procedures.


Skill to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.


Working knowledge of standardized testing, test development/administration and staff development experience is preferred.


Major Responsibilities and Duties:


1. Assist the Administrator of Assessment, Advisement and Records in the development and maintenance of the student advisement program for the district.


2. Maintain status as authorized GED and TABE Examiner.


3. Conduct training and staff development for student advisors, and other personnel in student test administration, student placement, student orientation, career pathways and leadership development.


4. Assist with the auditing of campus student advisement programs to include the quality of testing, studen placement, and the use of efficient practices.


5. Work collaboratively with others to define student advisement program goals and ofjectives which support the districts mission.


6. Work collaboratively with the State Classification Committee (SCC) to facilitate student transfers in order to meet student needs.


7. Maintain a broad knowledge and understanding of school improvement literature specifically related to counseling and guidance.


8. Assist with the development and maintenance of various training manuals for professional staff.


9. Provide new hire training to all student advisors, testing specialists and testing clerks.


10. Monitor and review the progress of all new testing personel.


11. Serve as on-site investigator for GED and TABE irregularities and provide written reports of findings and recommendations for test security improvement.


12. Assist with the development of policies and procedures regarding the testing program.


13. Coordinate effectively with other agencies and/or TDCJ departments to improve the quality of district programs.


14. Demonstrate progress in meeting studen performance targets of the district.


15. Demonstrate progress in meeting assigned action plans of the district or campus improvement plans.

16. Compile and maintain all reports, records, and other documents as required.


17. Maintain confidentiality in handling sensitive information received in the performance of the job duties.


18. Perform duties in a professional manner through daily, punctual attendance at location of work assignment.


19. Follow Windham School District policies and procedures in completing assigned job duties.


20. Execute duties in a professional, ethical, and responsible manner as defined in 19 TAC Chapter 247, Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Educators.

Environmental Demands:


Work inside and outside, noise, radiant/electrical energy, work alone, work with others, around machines with moving parts and objects, possible exposure to microwaves in use, exposure to hot and cold temperatures, exposure to dust and cleaning chemicals.
