SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS:
The Director of Innovation and Instruction coordinates the efforts of the SU and schools to address the development and implementation of curriculum and instruction using an MTSS model to ensure optimal student outcomes. The Director also oversees the Consolidated Federal Grants program.
QUALIFICATIONS:
•Eligible for Vermont Director of Curriculum Professional Educator License
•Master’s Degree in Education
•Three (3) years of successful administrative experience
•Five (5) years of successful classroom teaching experience
PREFERRED:
•Previous experience in District level administration
REPORTS TO:
•Superintendent
SUPERVISES:
•As assigned by the Superintendent
RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Coordinates and leads the SU and school teams in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating curriculum, instruction, and assessment within an MTSS framework to improve student outcomes and ensure compliance with federal and state laws and regulations
Coordinates instructional programming operations, including supervision, budgeting, federal grants, and professional development, aligned with SU priorities
Develops and manages the department budget to support instructional goals
Oversees federal grants (Titles I, II, IV), ensuring compliance, alignment to student achievement, collaborating with the Director of Finance, Director of Student Services, Director of Student and Family Systems, Director of Nutrition, and Director of Informational Technology on reports and applications as needed
Coordinate and support the schools' and SU-level continuous improvement process work
Supervises staff responsible for academic intervention, curriculum, and instruction; conducts evaluations, supports professional growth, assists coaches and specialists, and supports the Superintendent in evaluating building leaders
Collaborates with principals, Directors, and instructional leaders to align PreK–12 programs, strengthen instruction, and support staff evaluation
Coordinates the development and implementation of an SU-wide professional development strategy, with the building leadership and central office administrators
Supports recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and retention of instructional staff and coordinates and oversees the new teacher induction and mentoring program
Leads data analysis by coordinating, monitoring, and interpreting student assessment data; reporting results; and working with stakeholders to set and refine student achievement goals aligned with state benchmarks and SU priorities
Communicates curriculum, instructional initiatives, and program outcomes to staff, school boards, and the community; supports embedded professional learning tied to instructional materials
Serves as a resource for educators implementing programs, aligning curriculum and assessment, refining instruction, and selecting materials aligned with SU goals
Attends and presents at school board meetings, prepares reports, represents the SU in meetings and public forums, and presides over meetings as designated by the Superintendent
Makes policy recommendations to the Superintendent on elementary and secondary programs and instructional priorities
Builds partnerships with districts, higher education institutions, and state agencies to support improvement
Stays current on curriculum and instruction trends and collaborates with the Director of Student Services and Director of Student and Family Systems to determine alignment with MTSS and SU programs
Oversees the English Language Learner program, including supervision of instructional staff
Supervises and directs the instructional coaching team to coordinate the SU-wide local assessment system to support a robust academic MTSS implementation
Oversees the coordination and integration of content areas (ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies)
Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent
