Lower School Kindergarten Teacher - 2026-27 School Year
Windermere Preparatory School has an opening for a Kindergarten Teacher in our Lower School for the 2026-2027 school year. As a Lower School teacher at WPS, you will play a key role in shaping students’ lifelong relationship with learning. A strong and positive lower school experience equips students with the confidence and skills they need to thrive in middle school, high school, and beyond.

Teachers are expected to deliver the Windermere Preparatory School PYP program while bringing creativity, engagement, and real‑world application to all content areas.

Responsibilities
- Engage in the collective work cycle of designing, implementing, and revising the IB Primary Years Program (PYP) in the Lower School.
- Implement a developmentally appropriate program that provides a safe, secure, and stimulating learning environment that meets children's individual needs, including areas of social, emotional, cognitive, physical development, and creative expression.
- Exercise proactive class management within an atmosphere of respect and community following the Responsive Classroom approach
- Meet the diverse needs of students in your care, including those with accommodation plans
- Monitor students closely to identify those who may need additional academic and/or developmental assistance and take the necessary actions accordingly.
- Support the social-emotional development of students with a focus on teamwork, collaboration, sportspersonship, problem-solving, and conflict resolution
- Work in partnership with faculty, parents, and administration as an advocate for student success
- Follow academic reporting and other school protocols as applicable
- Attend and participate in regular faculty meetings and interdisciplinary collaborations
- Take an active role in the Windermere Preparatory School community by attending and supporting school events outside of the regular school day
- Model the attributes of the school crest, Virtus, Veritas, and Unitas
The successful candidate will have the following skills, background and interests:
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree, preferably in Education or a related field
- Prior experience teaching in a lower school setting, preferably in an independent school (minimum 3 years)
- Experience with the IB PYP curriculum is preferred. Any necessary IB PYP training and professional development will be made a priority for the successful candidate.
- Teaching certification preferred
- Prior experience developing cross-curriculum and/or inquiry-based units
