What are the responsibilities and job description for the Phlebotomist (Ethete) - Lab/Rad position at Wind River Family and Community Health Care?
Interacts with courteous, professional manner towards patients, co-workers, nursing, and medical staff. Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that enhances patients' safety and reduces the probability of medical/health care errors. Performs positive patient identification by identifying the patient (Name and DOB) and comparing patients' information on the specimen labels to the patient's identification card or verbal response from the patient before specimen collection is performed. Prepares and affixes labels to specimen vials to ensure proper identification. Labels specimens appropriately and completely. Obtains adequate blood specimens as ordered by venipuncture and capillary puncture on patients of all ages without undue stress or injury to the patient with all safety and infection control procedures. Provides and advises specimen collection material to patient; reviews and oversees proper urine, stool, or other collection methods with patient and/or patient family to minimize opportunity for contamination. Performs laboratory testing under the supervision of the medical technologists and medical technicians; phlebotomists do not supervise other staff. Perform tests, quality control, documentation of results, troubleshooting for test failures, participate in proficiency testing and assist the medical technologists and technicians in providing test results to providers. The testing must adhere to the CLIA/COLA standards. Disposes all needles, heel stick and finger stick devices in a sharp's container. Participates in departmental orientation, on the job training and quality assurance programs/initiatives. Assist the laboratory with clerical functions that are needed. Maintains accurate records, files and logs of collection and processing activities. Records, files, and distributes reference lab reports. Inventories and requisitions medical laboratory supplies and stocks work area as needed. May perform routine instrument and equipment cleaning. Other duties as assigned to maintain and enhance the operation of the department.
