Job Summary:
This role involves managing driver dispatch for hazmat bulk loads, ensuring timely sales order entry, tracking and coordinating deliveries, and actively reducing service disruptions such as late deliveries and demurrage. The dispatcher will rotate between managing key customer lanes (PFA and Wilson), providing coverage for overflow, and supporting strategic operations at high-impact customer locations. Previous experience dispatching tanker and hazmat loads wanted.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Daily Dispatch Operations
- Manage daily across multiple lanes
- Communicate load details to drivers and confirm load acceptance
- Monitor driver locations and ETA adherence using Samsara GPS
- Proactively escalate late ETAs and delivery risks
Sales Order Management
- Enter and manage sales orders in ERP system
- Coordinate closely with internal departments to ensure accurate data flow
- Provide backup support during peak periods or staff absences
Operational Support & Compliance
- Monitor driver in/out times and track demurrage risk
- Use Samsara tools to ensure HOS compliance and real-time visibility
- Assist in documenting and improving dispatch workflows and SOPs
Team Collaboration
- Cross-train across other dispatchers to ensure seamless backup
- Work with senior dispatchers to capture knowledge and streamline operations
- Participate in strategic planning to build continuity across dispatch roles
Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Experience with dispatching systems, GPS tracking (Samsara a plus), and sales/order entry platforms (NetSuite experience highly valued)
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities under time pressure
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Familiarity with DOT/HOS compliance requirements
- Prior exposure to chemical or hazmat transportation a plus
- Understanding of demurrage, detention, and related operational cost factors
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- 2 years in dispatch, logistics coordination, or transportation operations (hazmat or bulk preferred)
