Role Summary:
The Staff Accountant maintains, records, and analyzes financial transactions to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Core duties include preparing journal entries, reconciling bank accounts, and assisting with month-end close. The Staff Accountant will contribute with the preparation of financial statements including research and resolution of financial discrepancies.
Scope of the Position:
The Staff Accountant will support the overall accounting operations of Wilson Lumber Company and any other related entities.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities expected of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Reconcile bank accounts
- Complete balance sheet reconciliations in a timely manner to assist with month-end close
- Prepare general ledger entries while maintaining sufficient support and documentation
- Research irregularities or discrepancies in a timely manner to aid in providing accurate financial reporting
- Assist with tax and other business compliance filings in an accurate and timely manner
- Prepare documentation and support for external accountants/auditors as required
- Analyze data and information using accounting software, ERP systems, Excel and other applications to assist in providing recommendations to management and leadership
- Assist with the annual budget, as needed
- Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, and participating in professional organizations
- Other duties as assigned
Position Qualifications:
- Experience in various accounting roles, preferably in a lumber and/or manufacturing business environment
- Experience in the preparation of journal entries, general ledger and bank account reconciliations
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Effective written and verbal communication and presentation skills
- Proven experience in contributing to the overall success of an accounting team
- Demonstrated proficiency with various accounting software systems. Previous experience with Epicor BisTrack or other LBM, Distribution or ERP systems a plus
- Ability to speak English fluently
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- 5 years of progressive accounting experience (manufacturing or retail strongly preferred)
- Preference will be given to candidates pursuing or holding an active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation

Answer accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data

Provide financial and accounting support for various projects which may include mergers and acquisitions, new business units, business restructuring, or other projects as requested by management

Position Qualifications:

Previous practical experience in various accounting roles preferably in a lumber and/or manufacturing business

The Staff Accountant candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Banking and Finance, or a related field, or equivalent experience and 10 years of progressively responsible experience working in an accounting environment.
