What are the responsibilities and job description for the Med Surg Director position at Wilson County Memorial Hospital District?
Summary Under the direction of the Chief Nursing Officer, the Director of Med Surg has 24-hour responsibility for the effective implementation of the philosophy, goals, policies, and procedures of the hospital and nursing services and their effect on patient care. The Director of Med Surg has authority to make decisions in the areas of patient care, human resources, and financial management.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Monitors/maintains unit compliance with regulatory, accrediting and hospital policy for patient services, and environmental and personnel safety.
- Monitors the staff's understanding of established emergency, infection control, and/or universal precautions procedures as evidenced by CQI reports, incident followups, staff meeting minutes and direct observation by divisional director/designee.
- Accurately identifies real/potential problems affecting the service and implements solutions with followthrough and communication.
- Responds to reported problems/complaints based on urgency
- Provides for opportunity to discuss and update staff on progress of shared management model, project team, etc., as evidenced by staff meeting minutes.
- Consults with patients/families through primary nurse request, direct family request, and/or direct assessment of patient/family response to hospitalization. Assesses patient/significant other survey responses regarding nursing care and services.
- Responds to requests for consultation as evidenced by rounds, family conferences, and case conference.
- Followsup on patient survey responses in accordance with hospital policy and procedure. Any identified trends will be addressed following hospital policy and procedure.
- Prepares budgets to control costs and to allocate funds in accordance with departmental budget.
- Instructs staff and volunteers in skills required to provide services.
- Coordinates services to disaster victims.
- Coordinates safety programs such as Basic Life Safety and CPR training.
Education and/or Experience
BSN preferred. Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Current license as RN in Texas, or a Compact state
B.S. with concentration in nursing preferred
Three years clinical experience preferred
Management Experience preferred
CPR
ACLS
TNCC
ENPC or PALS
CEN preferred
