What are the responsibilities and job description for the Emergency Department Tech FT position at Wilson County Memorial Hospital District?
Summary The emergency department tech through communication, requisitioning and management of supplies and equipment, coordinates the activities of the nursing staff, the patient, the physician, other hospital departments and visitors. Clinical duties are hands-on with the patient and may include taking and monitoring vital signs like blood pressure, pulse and temperature; collecting blood, urine, saliva and stool samples for laboratory analysis; cleaning, prepping and suturing wounds; fitting patients for splints, crutches and other devices; providing instruments to doctors and nurses as they perform procedures on patients; assisting with the safe movement of patients, such as from hospital bed to wheelchair, when necessary.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Answers signal lights, bells, or intercom system to determine patients' needs.
- Bathes, dresses, and undresses patients.
- Transports patients or assists patients to walk.
- Drapes patients for examinations and treatments, and remains with patients to perform such duties as holding instruments and adjusting lights.
- Turns and repositions bedfast patients, alone or with assistance, to prevent bedsores.
- Changes bed linens, runs errands, directs visitors, and answers telephone.
- Takes and records temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respiration rates, and food and fluid intake and output, as directed.
- Cleans, stores, prepares, and issues dressing packs, treatment trays, and other supplies.
- Dusts and cleans emergency patients' rooms.
- Tech can perform invasive procedures to include phlebotomy, intravenous access, accuchecks, and sterile foley catheter insertion once they have met required competency.
Education and/or Experience
One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
High school graduate or equivalent preferred
Ability to communicate effectively and document information accurately
Ability to deal efficiently and effectively with a wide variety of individuals
Knowledge of basic medical terminology preferred
Basic computer knowledge is preferred
Education and/or Experience
- One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
