What are the responsibilities and job description for the Processing Assistant IV position at Wilson County Government?
Position will register any patients that seek services at the health department. Our aim is to provide good customer service to our patients and visitors. Greet patients and other visitors; registration includes collecting all demographic and income information on new patients and updating information on returning patients. Information collected is entered into the electronic health record. This position verifies all demographic information and collects income and insurance information when available.
Confer with patients and the public on phone or in person regarding questions concerning appointments, directions to the health department and specific program questions. Call for an interpreter as needed.
Triage phone calls and route to appropriate staff member. Return calls in a timely manner to ensure proper medical treatment. Must be able to tactfully interact with all patients and maintain professionalism in difficult situations. Good customer service is priority.
Communicate with doctor’s offices, hospitals, clinics, and other facilities to obtain or share patient information following HIPAA guidelines.
RECORDS AND REPORTS: 25%
Confer with patients to complete all forms for registration in the electronic health record. Screen patient for Medicaid and/ or other insurance. Use on-line resources, i.e., NC Tracks, to verify eligibility, NCIR to post immunizations and print records. This position requires significant, detailed knowledge of all programs to ensure the correct information is collected. In-depth knowledge of Primary Care, BCCCP, Communicable Disease and STD, Maternity, Child Health and Family Planning.Sort encounters, enter data for statistical reporting, scan patient documents into electronic health record. Review lab reports and other results and scan to appropriate patient account.
Use typewriter for letters to patients regarding services, address letters, prepare reports for specific programs when directed.
Graduation from high school and demonstrated possession of knowledge, skills and abilities gained through at least two years of office assistant/secretarial experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in maternity or maternal health programs
Knowledge of medical terminology and health department operations
Strong computer and data-entry skills
Ability to manage confidential information with professionalism and discretion
