What are the responsibilities and job description for the Youth Basketball Referee position at WILMETTE PARK DISTRICT?
SUMMARY: The Youth Basketball Referee is responsible for officiating youth basketball games for ages 5-14. A thorough knowledge of basketball and applicable Park District rules needed to officiate each age group is required to ensure games run smoothly and players display good sportsmanship at all times. Referees are paid per game.
SUPERVISORY DUTIES:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Create a safe, engaging environment throughout the framework of basketball games

Thorough knowledge of grade-specific Park District basketball rules for Grades 1-8 (age 5-14)

Positively interact with youth, coaches, parents/guardians, and team members

Referee games within specific grade-level basketball rules
-
Provide positive feedback to participants and coaches during and after games

Communicate with other Park District staff, supervisors, and team leaders as needed

Perform other related duties as assigned, based on agency needs
SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Actively support the safety program that will effectively control and reduce accidents

Obey the practical safety rules, regulations, and procedures established by the Wilmette Park District safety program that are pertinent to the activities conducted by the department

Become familiar with and follow the safety procedures of the Wilmette Park District, including, but not limited to, fire, severe weather, and evacuation procedures

Promptly report all unsafe actions, practices or conditions observed to immediate supervisor
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Must be at least 16 years old

At least three (3) years of experience playing basketball

Experience officiating basketball preferred
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

IHSA certification preferred
