What are the responsibilities and job description for the Custodian First Shift position at Willmar School District?
- Assists in providing district security
a) Opens and/or closes and secures building.
b)Performs security checks.
c) Determines safety risk situations; reacts to situations.
- Assists with storage duties and setting up for events
a) Assists in freight unloads and placements.
b)Removes trash from buildings.
c) Sets up and takes down bleachers, tables and chairs for various events.
- Performs cleaning duties
a) Scrubs and cleans fixtures including toilets, mirrors, wash basins, urinals, commodes, kitchen range hoods, etc.
b)Cleans chalk boards and whiteboards and empties pencil sharpeners in classrooms.
c) Sanitizes and cleans drinking fountains.
d) Dusts furniture, walls, windowsills and other woodwork; cleans windows.
- Maintains supplies
a) Maintains and fills tissue and towel dispensers.
b)Maintains soap and sanitizer dispensers in restrooms and classrooms.
c) If located in building with a pool, scrubs pool deck and ‘mouses’ the pool.
- Performs upkeep of floors
a) Sweeps, strips, buffs, waxes or dust mops assigned areas.
b)Cleans carpet using maintenance machinery.
- Performs maintenance duties
a) Performs various building maintenance duties, including replacing light bulbs, repairing lockers, replacing batteries, setting clocks, mending tables, rafter dust extraction, etc.
b)Performs various maintenance and repairs on equipment.
- Performs various external building safety needs; i.e. snow shoveling, salting, etc.
- Attends training sessions, seminars, and health and safety meetings.

- Performs other related duties within the scope of the position as assigned or requested to contribute to the efficient operation of the Building and Grounds Department and Willmar Public Schools.
Performs cleaning of school building interiors, maintaining school grounds, and related work. Work is performed under the supervision of the Health and Safety Coordinator.
