Position Summary
The Clinical Instructor is responsible for onboarding and orienting new Registered Nurses (RN), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN), and ancillary staff for critical care, step-down, and medical-surgical units. This role ensures that new team members are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to deliver safe, high-quality patient care. The Clinical Instructor serves as a mentor and resource, fostering a welcoming and supportive environment during the transition into the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive onboarding programs for RNs, LPNs, and ancillary staff across critical care, step-down, and med/surg units.
- Provide hands-on clinical instruction, competency validation, and skills training in alignment with organizational standards and evidence-based practices.
- Collaborate with unit leadership and educators to tailor orientation plans based on individual experience and learning needs.
- Serve as a role model for professional practice, demonstrating clinical expertise and compassionate care.
- Monitor progress of new hires, provide constructive feedback, and identify opportunities for additional support or education.
- Maintain accurate documentation of orientation activities, competencies, and evaluations.
- Stay current with clinical best practices, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies to ensure compliance.
- Promote a positive, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all new staff members.
Qualifications
- Current RN license (required); BSN preferred.
- Minimum 3–5 years of clinical experience in acute care settings (critical care experience strongly preferred).
- Previous experience in education, preceptorship, or clinical instruction is desirable.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and motivate learners.
- Proficiency in time management and organizational skills to manage multiple onboarding schedules effectively.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
