TITLE: Utility Worker
DEPARTMENT: Water Division, Distribution System
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Utility Worker provides skilled labor and equipment operation services in the installation, maintenance, and repair of water mains and related facilities. The duties involve a substantial amount of outside work, often in adverse weather during nighttime or weekend hours, and include work with specialized tools and construction machinery. Utility Workers are under the direct supervision of the Crew Chief and the Water Distribution Foreman.
EXAMPLES OF WORK - Including but not limited to the following:
*Locate and repair water line breaks
* Insall service to new structures
* Open and repair excavations in streets, curbs, and sidewalks
* Cut, fit, and install water mains
* Knowledge of Authority tapping machines and be able to make line taps from 3/4-inch to 12-inch
* Pour and caulk lead pipe joints
* Install, relocate, repair, and maintain fire hydrants
*Inspect and pressure test water mains
* Design and construct excavation shoring
* Maintain and repair high bridge water lines
*Perform various welding tasks, and thaw frozen lines
*Operate water pump station and wellfields
*Operate backhoe in repair and maintenance of water supply facilities
*Construct manholes
*Fill out work order in a neat and timely manner
*Perform basic maintenance of the backhoe including lubrication and hydraulic line repair
*Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
* Knowledge of basic mathematics
*Ability to read and understand maps and blueprints
* Ability to operate a backhoe
*Ability to operate welding equipment
*Skills in various plumbing tasks
*Ability to manual labor, often under adverse conditions
* Availability to be called out for emergencies at night and during other normally off-duty hours
* At least three years of experience in directly related work
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
* Currently have a PA C.D.L. Class A driver's license with air brakes and tanker rating
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $26.77 - $31.50 per hour
