JOB SUMMARY

The Director of Assisted Living, under the leadership of the Chief Clinical Officer, is responsible for overseeing the delivery of nursing care and hospitality services within the Assisted Living, Cove Crest, and Namaste programs. This role includes management of departmental operations-staffing, budgeting, safety, resolving resident and family concerns, and ensuring the provision of high-quality resident care in accordance with all applicable regulations from the State Department of Social Services and Williamsburg Landing policies. 

This position supports team members overseeing sales and marketing and resident admissions and assessments to determine appropriate levels of care and works collaboratively with other departments to enhance the overall quality of life for new and existing residents. This role supports a culture of excellence by fostering a positive work environment where staff are empowered to deliver compassionate, person-centered care while maintaining respectful and professional relationships with residents, their families, and colleagues. All responsibilities are carried out in alignment with and in support of the comprehensive services offered by Williamsburg Landing.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Provide leadership and administrative oversight to operations, and staff leading Assisted Living (AL) marketing, admissions, administration as well as CNAs and nurses providing clinical care, ensuring duties are carried out effectively and in accordance with established standards.  
• Maintain regular rounding practice to observe and provide real-time feedback to team members
• Ensure staff completion of training to meet mandated standards supports staff development, and assigns responsibilities to ensure appropriate care and services, including but not limited to, 
• Updates are maintained on the Activities of Daily Living Task Sheets
• Resident weight sheets are completed and updated monthly in compliance with regulatory requirements, coordinating timely follow-up with the Care Team as needed
• Lead Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) process by facilitating monthly committee meetings, analyzing health and operational metrics, and directing data-driven performance improvement projects to ensure regulatory compliance and high-quality resident outcomes.
• Partner with the Chief Clinical Officer to oversee the AL Quality Assessment Nurse and directly manages the Nurse Manager of Cove Crest and Namaste to ensure clinical leadership is provided to all direct care positions in assigned areas. Use survey feedback to inform action plans that improve service quality. 
• Conduct annual Universal Assessment Instrument reassessments as required by regulations.
• Perform Med Tech observation of Med Pass
• Actively participate in the hiring process, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions as necessary, including making recommendations for termination when appropriate. Monitor staff to ensure professionalism and fosters positive, respectful interactions with residents, guests, and fellow Williamsburg Landing team members.
• Develop and manage the annual budgets for assigned areas, ensuring operations remain within approved financial guidelines. Monitor expenditures and promptly reports any significant variances or emerging issues-such as changes in occupancy, reimbursement trends, or equipment failures-to the Chief Clinical Officer.
• Ensure adequate inventory of disposable supplies and medications to support uninterrupted resident care. Ensure that the condition of medical equipment is monitored, arranging for repairs or replacements as needed to maintain safe and effective operation.
• Ensure all departmental operations comply with regulations established by the State Department of Social Services. Collaborate with other functional areas and department Directors to communicate updates, coordinate responses to regulatory changes, and support preparedness for on-site inspections.
• Represent Williamsburg Landing during all entrance and exit conferences with the Department of Social Services. Collaborate with DSS inspectors by providing necessary documentation and support to demonstrate the organization's compliance with all applicable standards and regulations.
• Plan and oversee the delivery of nursing care for residents across all shifts to ensure consistency and quality. Complete resident profiles and ensures physician orders are transcribed accurately in a timely manner.
• Assess residents to develop individualized care plans tailored to their specific needs. Actively participate in resident reviews and team meetings to support comprehensive, interdisciplinary care planning and ongoing evaluation.
• Communicate with physicians and other providers as needed to address changes in resident condition or care needs. 
• Maintain consistent and respectful communication with family members, adhering to all applicable federal and state privacy regulations.
• Evaluate work processes and methods; Oversee staffing levels, qualifications and training needs, tools, equipment, and physical resources, and submits recommendations for continuous performance improvement.
• Assume responsibility for own professional development. Attend scheduled training programs that includes, at a minimum, trainings required by Williamsburg Landing and by regulatory and accrediting bodies.
• Comply with and enforce all Williamsburg Landing policies and procedures, including strict adherence to HIPAA, confidentiality and data privacy protocols, standards of conduct, attendance, safety, and dress.
• Participate in the on-call clinical leadership rotation for licensed areas, including working odd hours on nights, weekends, holidays, and during emergencies.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor's degree in related healthcare or business field, preferred
• 5 years of experience in a long-term care, assisted living or resident care/health care setting, with a minimum of 2 years in a leadership role, required
• Valid Commonwealth of Virginia Registered Nurse licensure, required
• Active Assisted Living Administrator license in the Commonwealth of Virginia, preferred or, will need to obtain license within 24 months of position start 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES 

• Demonstrated knowledge of Department of Social Services regulations related to Assisted Living and Memory Support
• Comprehensive knowledge of resident care standards and psychosocial dimensions of gerontology 
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with residents, families, and interdisciplinary teams. 
• Ability to work as a team or independently and be self-motivated and goal oriented with shared accountability
• Excellent organizational and administrative skills and the ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced environment 
• Ability to maintain professional working relationships and work compassionately with employees, residents, prospective residents, families, visitors, and public
• Ability to take initiative to solve problems on behalf of residents/prospective residents and employees and to exercise sound professional judgment appropriately in emergency      situations
• Strong supervisory skills with the ability to motivate, train, and evaluate staff; skilled in resolving workplace conflicts and promoting teamwork
• Ability to support the development of nurses and aides
• Proficiency with Google Suite, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel; demonstrated experience with  electronic medical records systems 
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally, to lift and transfer residents
• Ability to stand and walk throughout the shift, as well as ability to move about the community to attend meetings, visit team members and residents, and participate in or present at activities as needed.

Salary : $87,500 - $114,300
