We’re seeking a hands-on Shop Foreman with a strong emphasis on leadership to oversee daily operations in our diesel maintenance shop located in Springfield, IL. This position is responsible for ensuring mechanical work is performed safely, efficiently, and to high standards of quality while coordinating with technicians, drivers, and management. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, customer-focused, and capable of leading a team in a fast-paced fleet maintenance environment.
Schedule:
- Monday–Friday
- 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
- Saturdays are possible as needed
Pay Range:
- $29/hour to $35/hour
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and support diesel technicians performing repairs and preventive maintenance on tractors and trailers.
- Assign, track, and review work orders to ensure accurate documentation, timely completion, and quality control.
- Schedule units into the shop for preventive maintenance, inspections, and customer repairs -- balancing workloads and priorities.
- Coordinate off-site repairs, including mobile service calls and vendor scheduling.
- Provide hands-on diagnostic or repair support as needed.
- Maintain a safe and organized shop environment, enforcing company safety policies.
- Support inventory control, parts ordering, and warranty tracking.
Qualifications:
- 3 years of experience in diesel or heavy truck repair (lead tech or supervisory experience required).
- Strong diagnostic and mechanical skills.
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
- Familiarity with repair order systems, maintenance tracking software, and DOT compliance.
- Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred but not required).
- Ability to multitask and manage workflow efficiently under pressure.
