Protestant Fellow

Williams College seeks a student-centered, collaborative, and highly motivated individual to serve as the Protestant Fellow in the Chaplains’ Office. This is a part-time position that will provide the successful candidate an opportunity to learn about and engage in campus ministry at a residential, liberal arts college.

The Chaplains’ Office oversees and guides spiritual and religious life at Williams College. Supervised by the Director of Catholic Life & Christian Partnerships, the Fellow will work with Protestant Christian students to build and nurture student-led religious and spiritual communities on campus, connect students with spiritual and religious resources within Williamstown, and provide logistical support for larger College events such as Lessons and Carols.

The Fellow will be a valued member of the Chaplains’ Office team, regularly attending Chaplains’ Office staff meetings and participating in occasional gatherings with student-facing staff members from other departments. Meeting with students 1:1, in small groups, and through more formal events and programming, the Fellow will join in the work of the Office to offer timely, sensitive, and appropriate pastoral and spiritual care.

This is a two-year, renewable position. The Fellow is expected to work 12 hours per week, including some nights and weekends, for 10 months of the academic year (occasional day travel and overnight travel will be likely). This position is not eligible for remote or hybrid work.

Responsibilities:

• In collaboration with the Director of Catholic Life & Christian Partnerships:
• Provide spiritual care to Protestant students
• Identify spiritual and religious needs of Protestant students
• Develop programming to support the needs of Protestant students
• Meet with local Protestant clergy to steward relationships
• Lead retreats on and off-campus
  
  

• On their own, supervised by the Director of Catholic Life & Christian Partnerships:
• Advise Protestant student leaders
• Communicate with broader Protestant student community through regular newsletter
• Meet 1:1 with volunteer(s) who support Protestant Registered Student Organizations (RSOs)
• Participate in Ecumenical, Interfaith, and multi-religious programming (including evenings and weekends)
• Manage Lessons & Carols and other College events
  

Qualifications:

• Required:
• A minimum of 1 year of relevant work experience is required.
• A Master’s degree or equivalent is required. If a candidate does not have a Master’s degree in a related field or equivalent, they may still be a strong candidate if they have more than three years of leadership experience in their denomination, church, or worship community.
• A valid Driver’s License
  
  

• Preferred:
• Experience advising students and familiarity with College chaplaincy or campus ministry settings are all desirable, but not required
• At least one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE)
