Dietary Aide

Purpose of Your Job Position
The primary purpose of this position is to assist with all food service functions as directed and in accordance with established food service policies and procedures to ensure timely, safe, and quality meal service to residents.
Full-time employees may elect to participate in the No-Frills Pay Program, which allows employees to opt out of company-provided benefits and paid time off in exchange for an additional $2.00 per hour.
Delegation of Authority
As a Dietary Aide, you are delegated the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary to carry out your assigned duties in accordance with facility policies and regulatory requirements.

Duties & Responsibilities
Administrative Functions

Work with the Dietitian and/or Director of Food Services to implement dietary recommendations

Ensure all food service procedures comply with facility policies

Perform additional duties as assigned

Maintain confidentiality of system access credentials and report suspected unauthorized access immediately
Personnel & Team Functions
-
Maintain positive working relationships with interdepartmental staff
-
Promote a calm, respectful, and supportive work environment
-
Report suspected fraud to the Administrator
-
Log off computer workstations per facility policy
Staff Development
-
Participate in departmental projects and quality improvement initiatives
-
Attend required workshops, in-services, and training programs
-
Participate in all mandatory facility education (OSHA, TB, HIPAA, Abuse Prevention, etc.)
Food Service Duties
-
Serve meals that are palatable and visually appealing
-
Assist with meal service in a timely manner
-
Follow portion control procedures
-
Assist with cleaning duties, including work tables, equipment, refrigerators/freezers, and floors

Wash, clean, and store utensils and equipment properly
-
Remove trash and maintain clean, hazard-free work areas
-
Set up meal trays, carts, and dining areas
-
Assist cooks with meal preparation
-
Distribute and collect menus
-
Obtain food supplies for upcoming meals
-
Verify diet trays prior to distribution
-
Deliver food carts and trays to designated areas
-
Serve meals in dining rooms as instructed
-
Perform dishwashing duties and ensure readiness for next meal service

Remove trays and transport to dishwashing area
-
Prepare and deliver snacks as instructed
Safety & Sanitation
-
Follow sanitation standards and infection control policies
-
Use safety precautions and PPE as required

Maintain clean and orderly food storage areas
-
Report hazardous conditions, accidents, and incidents immediately

Dispose of waste according to facility policies
-
Report missing or illegible SDS/MSDS labels
Equipment & Supply Functions

Ensure food and supplies are available for upcoming meals

Assist with inventorying and storing incoming food and supplies
Resident Rights
-
Maintain confidentiality of resident information, including PHI
-
Knock before entering resident rooms
-
Report resident complaints to the Director of Food Services
Miscellaneous Duties

Make only authorized food substitutions

Assist with special meals, events, and holiday food preparation
Working Conditions

Work in well-lighted, ventilated, and warm kitchen environments

Frequent standing, walking, and movement throughout shift

Subject to frequent interruptions and fast-paced conditions

Interaction with residents, families, staff, and visitors

Exposure to heat, cold, cleaning chemicals, infectious materials, and food service equipment

May be required to work weekends, holidays, overtime, or emergency situations

Subject to call-back during emergencies (weather, evacuation, disaster response)
Education
Must possess, as a minimum, an 8th grade education.
Experience
None. On-the-job training provided.
Specific Requirements
Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.
Must be able to follow oral and written instructions.
Must maintain the care and use of supplies, equipment, the appearance of work areas, and perform regular inspections of food service areas for sanitation, order, safety and proper performance of assigned duties.
Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as be willing to handle residents based on whatever maturity level they are currently functioning.
Must possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing food practices.
Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.
Physical and Sensory Requirements

Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner.
Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
Must possess sight/hearing senses, or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with the residents, personnel, and support agencies.
Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility, which include a medical and physical examination.
Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and, at times, hostile people within the facility.
Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
