Pay: BOE & union wage scale $18.67 - $31.57 - not eligible for benefits
Description:
Maintain assigned areas, including outside buildings, in a sanitary, orderly and attractive condition in accordance with hospital and state regulations. Performs general cleaning of furniture, fixtures, etc., empties waste container, collection of bagged waste, disposal of accumulated waste. Cleans and prepares patient beds, performs duties related to floor care (Sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, stripping finish, etc) Operates heavy cleaning equipment. Will be cross-trained for all aspects of the laundry including collection of soiled linen, soring and preparing linen for washing, washing of linen, distribution of clean linen needs.
Responsibilities:
- Housekeeping
- Ancillary Departments will be cleaned a minimum of once daily, with specific departments responsible for cleaning rooms & equipment between patient use.
- Patient rooms will be cleaned minimally once daily in accordance with housekeeping policy. Patient rooms will be cleaned terminally after each discharge.
- Project cleaning will be done according to policy. (includes carpets, floor finish, vents, walls, and public use of furniture.
- Cubicle curtains are replaced when one is soiled; otherwise they are sent to laundry quarterly. Metal rods and curtain hooks are to be cleaned on a weekly basis.
- Spray down lights with disinfectant and wipe dry. Dust lights and rails with duster sprayed with disinfectant when in surgery or E.R.
- Empty wastebaskets & reline on daily basis. (Note: once a week wastebasket is cleansed thoroughly, outside and in)
- Check & fill soap dispensers on daily basis as well as paper towels.
- Spot clean walls. Once a week, wipe down all walls in public & private bathrooms.
- Clean floors on a daily basis.
- Papers & magazines found in restrooms are to be discarded in trash – not put back into circulation. They are to be considered contaminated.
- Clean sinks & toilet bowls on daily basis.
- Damp wipe counters, furniture, etc with disinfectant.
- Dispose of sharps container if full.
- Spot clean walls & outside of cupboards daily. Clean walls weekly.
- Clean soap dispensers, paper towel holders daily, fill as necessary.
- Damp wipe base of gurneys weekly or as needed.
- Clean phones in public areas as needed and daily in clinic areas.
- Dust window ledges & heaters on a daily basis.
- Pipes are dusted weekly.
- Vacuum carpeted floors.
- Cleans & maintains housekeeping equipment. Stores equipment after use. Sends mops & rags to laundry. Replenishes supplies.
- Complies with infection control, sanitation & safety regulations.
- Performs other housekeeping tasks assigned by the supervisor.
- Laundry
- Gathers and sorts all dirty linen daily.
- Washes all linen according to manufacturer and hospital standards.
- Marks surgery isolation and nursery linen according to procedure.
- Sorts, refolds and distributes clean linen closets.
- Maintains cleanliness of laundry room and linen room according to infection control standards and laundry policies.
- Keeps abreast of current practices and regulations concerning the department.
- Follows all infection control & safety standards.
Qualifications
- High School Graduate or equivalent
- Experience as a housekeeper desirable
- Current driver’s license
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Knowledge of detergents, germicides & other chemicals
- Ability to read, write, and interpret requirements of laundry operations
Salary : $19 - $32
