Primary Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
- Teach undergraduate courses in history, which may include World Civilization, U.S. History I & II, Western Civilization, and upper-level courses aligned with the candidate's area of specialization
- Guide students in developing historical research skills, critical analysis, and effective historical writing
- Provide academic mentoring and professional guidance to support student development as thoughtful, informed citizens
- Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development, assessment practices, and continuous program improvement
- Actively participate in departmental, college, and university service activities
- Engage in ongoing scholarship and professional development to maintain disciplinary currency and pedagogical effectiveness
- Report to the Department Chair or designated administrator and contribute to departmental goals
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in History or closely related field from a regionally accredited institution
- Demonstrated ability or strong potential to deliver effective, student-centered instruction that engages diverse learners
- Excellent communication and writing skills, with commitment to creating an inclusive, supportive learning environment
- Ability to help students develop critical thinking skills and understand multiple historical perspectives
- Willingness to engage collaboratively in curriculum review and departmental initiatives
Preferred Qualifications
- Terminal degree (Ph.D.) in History or related discipline
- Previous college or university teaching experience, particularly at the undergraduate level
- Experience with primary source analysis, historical research methods, and writing-intensive instruction
- Record of scholarly activity, archival research, public history engagement, or relevant professional experience
- Ability to teach across multiple geographic regions or historical periods
