Position Summary
As a Registered Peer Recovery Specialist (RPRS) at Wildwood Recovery Center, you will use your personal experience in addiction and recovery to provide encouragement, motivation, and practical support to individuals on their recovery journey. You will serve as a mentor and role model, helping clients build hope, resilience, and self-efficacy. Working alongside clinical and case management staff, you will contribute to treatment planning, client engagement, and overall program success by offering lived-experience insights and authentic peer connection.
Key Responsibilities
1. Peer Support & Recovery Engagement
- Provide peer support services to clients using lived experience in recovery to promote hope, engagement, and long-term recovery.
- Build supportive relationships with clients by modeling healthy coping strategies and recovery-oriented behaviors.
- Facilitate peer-led recovery support groups and educational sessions related to recovery, relapse prevention, life skills, and wellness.
- Encourage client participation in treatment programming and recovery activities.
- Assist clients in identifying personal recovery goals and strategies to maintain sobriety.
2. Client Support & Recovery Planning
- Provide one-on-one peer support sessions to assist clients in developing recovery skills and strengthening motivation for treatment.
- Assist clients with identifying recovery resources including community support groups, recovery housing, employment supports, and community services.
- Support clients in developing recovery plans and preparing for successful transition to lower levels of care.
- Share recovery experiences appropriately to provide encouragement and demonstrate recovery possibilities.
- Reinforce accountability, life skills development, and positive coping strategies.
3. Collaboration & Program Support
- Work closely with clinical staff, case managers, and residential staff to support client engagement in treatment.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings when appropriate to provide insight into clients’ recovery progress.
- Support recovery-oriented activities such as peer meetings, wellness activities, and recovery-focused programming.
- Assist staff in encouraging client participation in daily program structure and activities.
4. Documentation, Ethics & Compliance
- Complete required documentation for peer support services in accordance with program policies and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and adhere to ethical standards for peer recovery services.
- Protect client confidentiality and follow HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 regulations.
- Maintain required Virginia Registered Peer Recovery Specialist certification and continuing education requirements.
- Follow all facility policies, procedures, and regulatory standards including DBHDS and Medicaid guidelines.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- A high school diploma or GED (minimum).
- Complete the 72-hour Peer Recovery Specialist (PRS) training sponsored by DBHDS.
- Registered with the Virginia Board of Counseling (under the Dept. of Health Professions) as a RPRS.
- Obtain certificate as a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) via VCB
- At least one year of experience working in peer support, counseling, or related fields in an outpatient or treatment setting (preferred).
- Ongoing participation in recovery-related continuing education and personal development.
Skills and Abilities Needed for Success
- Personal lived experience in recovery and ability to share recovery experiences appropriately in a professional setting.
- Ability to engage individuals with substance use disorders in recovery-oriented conversations and activities.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to build trust and rapport with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Knowledge of recovery resources, peer support practices, and community recovery networks.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries and ethical standards while supporting clients in recovery.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team.

Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
