Position Overview:
We are seeking a dependable, mechanically inclined Shop Technician for a fast-paced oilfield fishing and rental operation. This position is responsible for preparing, maintaining, inspecting, and repairing downhole tools and support equipment. The ideal candidate works with urgency, pays attention to detail, and understands the importance of reliability in oilfield operations.
Responsibilities:
- Clean, inspect, redress, and prepare fishing tools and rental equipment
- Assemble and disassemble downhole tools (overshots, spears, jars, thru tubing tools etc.)
- Measure, drift, and verify tool dimensions and tolerances
- Pressure test and function test equipment when required
- Maintain accurate tool inventory and documentation
- Load and unload trucks; prepare equipment for field delivery
- Operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and shop equipment safely
- Perform basic shop maintenance and keep work area organized
- Assist with rush jobs and after-hours call-outs as needed
Preferred Experience:
- Oilfield fishing or downhole tool experience preferred
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Must be able to lift 50–100 lbs and work in shop conditions
- Forklift and overhead crane experience preferred
- Valid driver’s license required
- Must be reliable and able to work with minimal supervision
- Fishing & rental shop background
- Thread inspection and gauging (API connections)
- Tool redress and pressure testing
- Basic welding or fabrication (a plus, not required)
