What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fleet Mechanic position at Wild Animal Safari, Pine Mountain?
Overview
Our park is searching for an experienced mechanic to maintain our fleet. Qualified candidates should have previous experience in the automotive field working with gas engines. Diesel experience is a plus. Engines, exhaust, brakes, electrical, tire replacement and good general mechanical problem solving is needed. Self-starter preferred who can get jobs done without excessive supervision. Tools provided but personal tools are welcome. Additional skills such as welding, metal fabrication, and general carpentry are a plus. Experience with tractors and implements also a plus. First shift job with health insurance available after 90 days. Pay based on experience. You can also apply in person at our Pine Mountain location 1300 Oak Grove Rd. Position starts at $22/hour but can be negotiated to a degree depending on experience.
Duties
- Perform comprehensive inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on fleet vans, school busses, trucks and cars
- Conduct scheduled maintenance including oil changes, tire services, brake repairs, suspension adjustments, and hydraulic system servicing.
- Troubleshoot mechanical systems using schematics and automotive electrical system diagnostics to identify root causes efficiently.
- Repair transmissions, air brakes, shocks & struts, HVAC systems, and other critical vehicle components.
- Fabricate parts or modify equipment using welding and hand tools to meet specific operational needs.
- Maintain service records for all repairs and preventative maintenance tasks performed on fleet assets.
- Preferably some carpentry if needed to assist daily operations and maintenance of the park
Requirements
- Proven experience as a heavy equipment mechanic or automotive technician experience preferred.
- Skilled in using schematics for troubleshooting vehicle and equipment issues.
- Proficiency with power tools, welding equipment, soldering techniques, and heavy lifting safety procedures. Carpentry experience a nice-to-have.
- Familiarity with farm machinery and industrial equipment maintenance standards.
- Excellent customer service skills to communicate effectively with team members and support operational needs.
