Lead the financial function of a family-owned manufacturer at an important point in its growth and leadership transition.

Wieland Designs is seeking a hands-on Controller who can deliver reliable financial operations, develop a capable accounting team, and turn operating data into practical business insight. This is the senior day-to-day accounting and finance role in the company, with direct access to the CEO and a seat on the management team. The incoming Controller will work closely with our current CFO during a planned transition.

WHY CONSIDER THIS OPPORTUNITY?

  • Direct influence: Partner with the CEO and company leaders on decisions that affect performance.
  • Visible impact: Strengthen reporting, controls, systems, and the financial capability of the organization.
  • Manufacturing focus: Connect financial results to labor, margin, inventory, cost, and operational improvement.

ABOUT WIELAND DESIGNS

Founded in 1976 and based in Goshen, Indiana, Wieland Designs is a family-owned furniture design and manufacturing company serving the healthcare, marine, and contract/hospitality markets. We combine creative design, engineering expertise, and metric-driven manufacturing to deliver quality seating and furniture solutions. Our leaders can see the impact of their work, collaborate directly across functions, and help shape how the business operates.

WHY WIELAND DESIGNS

Our Beauty in Community culture reflects a belief that business success and community well-being are connected. Employees have opportunities to support local organizations, participate in volunteer initiatives, and contribute to projects that strengthen the communities where we live and work. For leaders, this means joining a company that values business performance, responsible stewardship, meaningful relationships, and positive community impact.

WHAT YOU WILL OWN

  • Lead, coach, and develop an accounting team of approximately three people, with clear priorities, accountability, cross-training, and backup coverage.
  • Own the accuracy and timeliness of the general ledger, monthly close, account reconciliations, financial statements, and recurring management reporting.
  • Present financial results to the management team and translate trends, variances, risks, and opportunities into clear business implications.
  • Partner with operating leaders to improve performance across revenue, margin, labor, inventory, working capital, spending, and other key drivers.
  • Maintain effective accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls appropriate for the company’s size and operating complexity.
  • Oversee cash receipts, customer credit, payroll controls, designated banking authorizations, sales and use tax filings, and related financial administration.
  • Coordinate year-end accounting, audit, tax, banking, insurance, and outside-accountant activities, assuming broader responsibilities through the transition.
  • Improve the usefulness and efficiency of financial systems and processes, including opportunities to simplify, standardize, automate, and strengthen reporting.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Progressively responsible accounting experience, including ownership of close, financial reporting, reconciliations, controls, and financial analysis; five or more years is preferred.
  • Manufacturing accounting experience and the ability to connect financial results to operational causes and improvement opportunities.
  • Experience leading, organizing, coaching, and developing accounting staff.
  • Strong command of generally accepted accounting principles and sound judgment in applying them to a practical operating environment.
  • Strong spreadsheet and financial-analysis capability, along with experience using an ERP-based accounting system. Epicor experience is a plus.
  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is preferred. An equivalent combination of education and significant relevant experience will be considered.
  • Clear communication, discretion, integrity, and the ability to build credibility with both accounting and non-accounting leaders.

HOW YOU WILL WORK

You will be both a financial steward and a business partner. The strongest candidate will be comfortable moving between accounting detail and company-level decisions, asking good questions, explaining financial information without jargon, and helping leaders act on what the numbers show.

You will bring discipline without unnecessary bureaucracy and approach problems with curiosity, follow-through, and a continuous-improvement mindset.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

  • Financial statements and recurring reports are accurate, timely, and useful to decision-makers.
  • The accounting team has clear ownership, strong working routines, and reliable backup coverage.
  • Leaders better understand the financial drivers of their areas and use that insight to improve results.
  • Controls and processes are dependable, appropriately documented, and continually improving.
