What are the responsibilities and job description for the Marine Diesel Mechanic position at Wide Effect Talent Solutions?
Key Responsibilities:
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair marine diesel engines on a variety of vessels
- Perform routine maintenance including oil changes, filter replacements, and system inspections
- Service and repair propulsion systems, generators, fuel systems, and cooling systems
- Conduct engine overhauls and rebuilds as needed
- Inspect vessels to identify mechanical issues and recommend repair solutions
- Read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic data
- Ensure all work is completed in compliance with safety and environmental regulations
- Maintain accurate service records and documentation of work performed
- Collaborate with yard team, captains, and project managers to meet deadlines
Qualifications:
- 3 years of experience as a diesel mechanic (marine experience preferred)
- Strong knowledge of marine diesel engines and vessel mechanical systems
- Experience working on larger vessels (commercial or private yachts preferred)
- Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical issues independently
- Familiarity with engine brands such as Caterpillar, Cummins, Detroit Diesel, or similar is a plus
- Ability to read schematics and technical documentation
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in a boatyard environment, including confined spaces and varying weather conditions
- Capable of lifting 50 lbs and performing physically demanding tasks
- Comfortable working on and around water and vessels
