What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bulk Customer Sales Representative position at Wicker Park Logistics?
About Us
Wicker Park Logistics is a Chicago-based freight brokerage built on relationships, not transactions. We specialize in bulk shipping — dry bulk, liquid bulk, pneumatic, and hopper — and we've built a network of carrier partners who know how to move commodities the right way. Our team is growing, and we're looking for someone who wants to own a book of business, build something real, and grow alongside us.
The Role
As a Bulk Customer Sales Representative, you'll be the face of Wicker Park Logistics to the shippers who need us most. This isn't general freight — you'll be working with companies moving agricultural commodities, industrial chemicals, food-grade ingredients, plastics, minerals, and construction materials. You'll prospect, build relationships, close accounts, and then grow them. You'll work hand-in-hand with our carrier and operations teams to make sure every customer gets exactly what they were promised.
What You'll Be Doing
- Prospecting and closing new shipper accounts in bulk freight verticals — agriculture, chemicals, food ingredients, plastics, minerals, and industrial materials
- Building and managing a growing book of customer business with a focus on long-term partnerships, not one-off loads
- Understanding each customer's unique bulk freight requirements — equipment types, product specs, loading/unloading procedures, compliance needs (FDA, hazmat, etc.)
- Developing competitive pricing strategies and responding to RFQs and RFPs with accuracy and speed
- Partnering with our carrier team to ensure capacity commitments to customers are met — every time
- Using our TMS and CRM to track activity, pipeline, and account health
- Hitting weekly and monthly targets around new accounts opened, revenue generated, and customer retention
What We're Looking For
- 1 years of experience in freight brokerage sales or customer-facing logistics roles; bulk freight experience strongly preferred
- Understanding of bulk shipping modes, equipment types, and the commodity verticals that drive demand
- Familiarity with bulk-specific customer requirements: product contamination risk, wash certifications, dedicated equipment, transit compliance
- Proven ability to open new accounts and build long-term shipper relationships
- Self-starter who can manage a pipeline, prioritize high-value opportunities, and close with confidence
- Strong communication and consultative selling skills — you explain complex logistics clearly and simply
- Experience with TMS platforms and CRM tools
- Bachelor's degree preferred but not required — real freight experience matters more
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive base salary uncapped commission
- Health, dental, and vision insurance
- 401(k) with company match
- PTO and paid holidays
- A team that actually likes working together
Wicker Park Logistics is an equal opportunity employer.
