Job Title:                      Remote Speech-Language Pathologist - Full-time

Reports to:                   Executive Director of Special Programs

Dept./School:               Special Programs

Wage/Hour Status:       Non-Exempt

Pay Grade:                   SLP Pay Schedule/187 Days Only

Primary Purpose:

Support the district’s commitment to equitable, high-quality, and compliant speech-language services, especially for students in underserved or hard-to-staff areas. Provide virtual speech and language therapy services to students in accordance with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Plan and provide speech-language pathology services to students with speech, voice, or language disorders. Assess students and provide therapeutic intervention to eliminate or reduce problems or impairments that interfere with the students’ ability to derive full benefit from the educational program.

 

 

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Master’s degree in speech-language pathology from an accredited college or university

Valid Texas license as a speech-language pathologist granted by the State Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology (SBESLPA)

Valid ASHA Clinical Competence Certificate in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP)

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to use the accepted tests and measurements to assess communication disorders and conditions

Knowledge of evaluation, habilitation, and rehabilitation of speech-language disorders and conditions

Ability to instruct and manage student behavior

Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Strong communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a remote educational team.

Experience:

One year of supervised clinical speech-language pathology experience

Experience delivering therapy via tele-practice (preferred but not required)

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

 

Therapy

 

  1. Plan and provide appropriate individual and group therapy remotely to students consistent with speech and language goals contained in Individual Education Plans (IEP).

 

  1. Evaluate student progress and determine readiness for termination of therapy services.

 

Assessment

 

  1. Conduct independent evaluations to assess students with speech or language disorders and conditions to determine eligibility for services.

 

  1. Develop clinical management strategies or procedures and diagnostic statements by interpreting observations or data.

 

  1. Participate virtually in the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee to assist in interpretation of assessment data, appropriate placement, and goal setting for students with communication disorders or conditions according to district procedures.

 

Consultation

 

  1. Counsel and involve parents in the remedial process.

 

  1. Collaborate virtually with classroom teachers to plan and implement classroom activities to improve communication skills of students.

 

  1. Provide professional development virtually in assigned schools to help school personnel identify and understand communication deficits in students.

 

  1. Communicate effectively using a virtual platform with colleagues, students, and parents regarding the accomplishment of therapy goals and needs of the student.

 

Student Management

 

  1. Work environment should be conducive to learning, free from distractions, and appropriate for the maturity level and interests of students.

 

  1. Establish control and administer discipline according to the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.

 

  1. Coordinate and collaborate with assigned campus administrator(s) to administer disciplinary action.

 

Program Management

 

  1. May supervise licensed speech-language pathology assistant(s) or speech aide(s) and/or substitutes (facilitators).*

 

  1. Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of speech-language pathology services and make changes based on the findings.

 

  1. Assist in the selection of equipment and instructional materials.

 

Administration

 

  1. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other required documents.

 

  1. Comply with policies established by federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, and board policy.

 

  1. Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations

 

  1. Participate in professional development activities to improve skills related to job assignment.

 

  1. Regular Attendance

 

  1. Other duties as assigned

 

  1. Comply with the District’s SLP Remote Work Agreement

 

           Technical Requirements:

 

  1. Reliable high-speed internet connection

 

  1. Private, secure workspace for conducting therapy sessions

 

  1. Computer/laptop with webcam, microphone, and updated operating system
  2. Familiarity with virtual therapy platforms and digital documentation systems
  1. Must have a working phone.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

May direct and monitor the work of speech-language pathology assistant(s) or speech aide(s) speech facilitators (substitutes)*

 

Working Conditions:

 

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Maintain emotional control under stress. Regular districtwide travel to multiple work locations as assigned;

 

*Supervisors of licensed speech-language assistants must be licensed by SBESLPA as speech-language pathologists.  A person with a TEA certificate who is not licensed may not be a supervisor of a licensed speech-language pathology assistant
