Job Title: Plumber Journeyman
Reports to: Facility Trades Supervisor

Primary Purpose:
Under general supervision, maintain the flow and drainage of water, air, and other gases by assembling, installing and repairing pipes, fittings, and plumbing fixtures district-wide. Maintain and provide for the safe condition and operation of all plumbing systems in district facilities.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or GED
Valid Texas driver’s license
Valid Journeyman Plumber license
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of plumbing repairs, maintenance, and installation techniques
Knowledge of plumbing codes
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and written reference material
Ability to perform mathematical calculations
Ability to diagnose and resolve problems
Ability to use hand and power tools
Experience:
Five years’ experience in plumbing field
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Maintenance and Repair Plumbing Systems:
- Assemble, install, maintain, and pressure test all pipes, fittings, and fixtures of heating, water, drainage, sprinkler, and gas systems according to specifications and plumbing codes.
- Determine sources of plumbing malfunctions and complete repairs as indicated or according to work orders.
- Install and repair pipes, fittings, valves, fixtures, and plumbing systems equipment, including sinks, commodes, water heaters, water softeners, etc.
- Repair dishwashers and kitchen equipment that incorporate gas or water consumption.
- Select material and hardware and make time and materials estimates.
- Maintain inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and materials.
- Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean.
- Work with building principals and supervisors to complete projects.
- Detect needed repairs on buildings, grounds, and equipment following established inspection procedures.
- Respond to emergency calls as needed.
- Meet the eligibility requirements to drive district vehicles.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Plumber Apprentice (Tech)
Equipment Used:
Hand and power tools; pipe bender; propane torch; welding equipment; sewer rooter; heavy equipment, including forklift, trencher, backhoe.
Mental Demands:
Reading and basic math, maintain emotional control under stress and demanding situations.
Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Must have good physical coordination, flexibility, balance, and upper body strength to allow twisting and turning of upper torso while handling components/tools weighing up to 75 lbs.; ability to climb into and work in confined spaces. Will occasionally lift and carry weights of 100 lbs. for short distances. Work outside and inside; exposure to hot and cold temperatures; work weekends/irregular hours as directed. Long-term standing, climbing, stooping, bending, and kneeling. May be subject to chemical/mechanical hazards. Ability to tolerate moderate amounts of dust/fumes, cold/wet/muddy places and under buildings. Candidate will be required to pass a rigorous physical exam.
