What are the responsibilities and job description for the Product Manager position at Whop?
The Role
We’re seeking a wildly-smart problem solver, builder and communicator to be our first Product Manager in Palo Alto. You’ll be tasked with translating the company’s business and product strategy into rigorously-prioritized initiatives for engineering and design to execute, on a fast, iterative schedule.
Deciding what to build
At Whop, we focus almost exclusively on the highest priority problems and opportunities in front of us. It will be your job to work out what these are by constantly talking to sellers, support, account management and sales, looking at our data, and then synthesizing what you learn to build a convincing case for what matters most.
Getting buy-in
To date, Whop has thrived through close, continuous coordination between growth, design and engineering. To be effective, you’ll need to build rapport and respect across the organization so that the team trusts and follows your judgment. You’ll need to be technical enough to brief engineers and evaluate any pushback. You’ll need an inspiring product sense to drive UX decisions that designers will want to bring to life.
What you’ll own
You’ll own either the seller or buyer side of Whop’s marketplace.
- You’ll need to be permanently dissatisfied with the current state of the product, while fiercely optimistic about its future potential.
- You’ll need to be scrappy and expedient in low-conviction situations, and more deliberate and considered in high-conviction ones.
- You’ll work closely with Whop’s founders, in particular our Chief Growth Officer, who will push you to move fast, simplify and prioritize.
What we’re looking for
- An ex-founder, ideally from consumer marketplace/fintech/social/creator economy
- A proven appetite for operating in an early startup environment
- Technical proficiency
- Data proficiency, as well as the ability to operate intuitively
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
