The position offers a competitive compensation package including base salary, performance bonus, equity consideration, excellent medical, and retirement plans.

Overview

The Officer, Client Advisor, Philanthropic Services will provide outstanding client service through support of a portfolio of private foundations, donor-advised funds and nonprofit endowments and will contribute toward the growth of the department and firm. On each client relationship, the Officer, Client Advisor will work under the direction of a VP or SVP, Client Advisor. If applicable, they will also work collaboratively with a Portfolio Manager. The position requires the ability to interface independently with clients and their professional advisors and exercise judgment as to when a Senior Client Advisor needs to be called in to handle a particular request. This role will require some travel (mostly in the western United States).

Key Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

Client Service

  • Serve as the Grants Manager for a portfolio of private foundations and donor-advised funds, under the supervision of a Client Advisor;
  • Oversee tax/audit/legal/compliance matters;
  • Initiate check/ACH/wire requests for payment of grants and expenses;
  • Develop materials in support of board meetings;
  • Provide comprehensive administrative support for our clients’ grantmaking, including manage grants through our online grants management database, generate grant-related correspondence, conduct grantee diligence and research, coordinate/attend site visits, and monitor outcomes.
  • Collaborate with members of Whittier Trust’s Investment, Client Advisory, Tax and Accounting Departments, and with clients’ outside professionals to provide necessary information and reports; and
  • Ad hoc projects, as required.


Business Development

  • Attend firm networking events;
  • Community involvement – participation in local organizations that may lead to new Whittier Trust relationships;
  • Participate (in a support role) in efforts to bring in new firm clients including outreach to/develop relationships with referral sources and potential clients; and
  • Learn how to talk about and promote the Five Pillars of the firm.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, required.
  • Advanced degrees (MBA, JD) and/or certifications (CAP, CTFA, CFP) preferred, not essential.
  • A minimum of three years of relevant work experience within the wealth management industry.


Desired Experience & Skills

  • Previous experience working with high-net-worth individuals and their family members is preferred not essential.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills.
  • Previous client management experience focusing on the utilization of good judgment with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to exercise empathy and compassion.
  • Impeccable oral and written communication skills.
  • Direct or supportive business development experience preferred, not essential. A minimum of willingness to effectively network with identifying referral sources, required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively including:
    • Demonstrated history of working within a team structure; and
    • Ability to coordinate closely with other company departments (tax, operations, investment, client administration, marketing), and ability to work collaboratively and collegially with supervisors, subordinates and other professionals in the firm.
    • Passion for philanthropy. While direct work experience in a philanthropic organization is not required, Philanthropic Services Client Advisors must have a demonstrated commitment to the nonprofit sector through previous client advisory service, nonprofit Board service and/or volunteering.


    Compensation

    Base salary range

    $85,000 - $110,000 annually

    Salary may vary depending on job-related factors including, but not limited to, skills and experience. Full-time employees may be eligible for a comprehensive benefits package that includes: medical, dental and vision coverage, 401(k), life insurance, paid time off and a Wellness Program. Annual bonus, incentive pay and/or equity may also apply depending upon the role.

    Salary : $85,000 - $110,000
