Whitpain Township, Montgomery County, PA (population 20,333) is hiring a Laborer/Driver/Operator.
This role operates heavy equipment and helps with manual labor for highway and maintenance projects in the Township.
Essential Job Functions:
- Drives tractor-trailer to move equipment to work sites and inspection facilities within ten miles of the Township.
- Operates loaders, backhoes, bulldozers, rollers, sweepers, and pavers to dig, grade, pave, and move materials like dirt, stone, asphalt, and concrete.
- Adjusts levers and depresses pedals to drive machines and control attachments.
- Drives dump trucks and trailers to haul materials, plow snow, spread cinders, salt, and brine, and load/unload equipment.
- Installs plow attachment, salt spreader, and brine tank equipment onto dump truck.
- Uses various hand and power tools for maintenance tasks.
- Maintains and repairs streets, fills potholes, resurfaces roads, rebuilds curbs and inlets, and clears debris.
- Trims and removes trees and vegetation.
- Clears debris from storm sewer inlets, creeks, and waterways.
- Mows grass along roads and in Township parks and properties.
- Paints Township buildings, structures, and equipment; paints crosswalks and stop lines on street intersections. Installs thermoplastic pavement markings.
- Assists skilled craftsman with wiring, plumbing, and carpentry in the repair and construction of Township buildings and structures.
- Washes and services trucks with water, gas, and oil.
- Performs pre-trip vehicle inspections and reports any defects or items needing repairs.
- Operates and maintains crack sealing equipment.
- Installs and erects street signs, guard rails, and fences.
- Replaces bulbs in traffic signals.
- Sets up and takes down traffic control devices and flags traffic through active work zones.
- Responds to highway emergencies and disperses sand-absorbent materials during spills.
- Laterally move between various Public Works Divisions.
- Plows and removes snow. Makes and applies brine.
- Must respond to emergencies and be available for overtime during weather events and disasters.
- Flexibility to assist when needed.
Job Qualifications:
- Requires knowledge of highway maintenance and experience operating a paver.
- Minimum High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Minimum two (2) years’ experience with maintenance and repair of equipment.
- Possess a Class A CDL license with a tanker endorsement.
- Ability to work with others.
- Must be able to lift up to 80 lbs. and push/pull up to 40 lbs. frequently, and handle tools and materials regularly.
- Withstand continuous exposure to weather; withstand frequent exposure to high noise levels, vibration, and wet conditions (during rainy weather).
- Work around moving machinery, slippery and/or uneven surfaces, unprotected heights, sharp edges, hot surfaces, dusty conditions, and confined spaces
