Long-Term Librarian Substitute

The Whitfield School, an innovative educational institution for students in grades 6–12, is seeking a part-time, temporary Librarian to support library operations and classroom collaboration. This position averages approximately 10 hours per week and includes required coverage of the Middle School (MS) 101 class on Day 1 of our five-day block schedule from 2:20–3:25 p.m., with the possibility of two additional half-day shifts each week.

The Whitfield School Library plays a central role in fostering a love of reading, supporting research and media literacy, and providing a welcoming environment for students and faculty. The Librarian partners with teachers, supports student learning, and helps maintain a vibrant, engaging collection and library space.

Responsibilities include the following:

• Oversee daily circulation and collection management using the Destiny library management system.
• Maintain the physical library space, including reshelving books and monitoring collection organization.
• Support end-of-year library processes, including communication with families.
• Collaborate with teachers to support student research and class projects.
• Teach MS101 during Day 1 (2:20–3:25 p.m.).
• Serve as Canva administrator and assist with digital design needs across the school.
• Partner with the Technology Director to design and implement media projects for MS101 students.
• Help coordinate library-related programming and activities (e.g., School Library Month).
• Support media creation using tools such as Camtasia, Canva, and Adobe.
• Potentially pack and catalog books for an upcoming construction project

In addition to demonstrating a passion for this work, ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Library Sciences, or related field
• A minimum of 3 years of experience working in a school library (K-12 setting)
• Experience using Destiny or a similar library management system.
• Experience supporting student research and collaborating with classroom teachers.
• Familiarity with digital media tools (Camtasia, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite).
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in maintaining a school collection.
• Interest in contributing to engaging, student-centered library programming.
• Ability to partner effectively with faculty, students, and the technology team.

Preferred but not required:

• Background in maker-centered learning, including tools such as Cricut or heat press equipment.
• Willingness to assist student with printing and basic computer skills
