Job Description Paraprofessional - Transportation - 1 on 1
Job Title: Paraprofessional
Reports To: Director of Transportation
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Employment Status: Classified employee pursuant to ORC §3319.081
Terms of Employment: Salary, work calendar, and benefits in accordance with applicable collective bargaining agreement.
Job Goal / Purpose
To support the instructional program and assist certified staff in providing a safe, supportive, and effective learning environment for students in compliance with district policy and applicable federal and state regulations.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Valid Educational Aide Permit issued by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce pursuant to ORC §3319.226.
- Successful BCI/FBI background check pursuant to ORC §3319.39.
- Meet applicable federal requirements under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), as amended.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, staff, and families.
Essential Performance Responsibilities
Assignments may include library, classroom, or transportation settings and may involve:
General
- Support student supervision and safety.
- Maintain confidentiality in accordance with FERPA.
- Perform other duties as assigned, consistent with the position.
Transportation Support
- Assist the bus driver in maintaining safe student conduct.
- Provide support to students with special needs during transport.
- Complete behavior reports as necessary.
Working Conditions / Physical Demands
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and assisting students.
- Possible lifting and physical support of students.
- Exposure to student illness or bodily fluids.
- May require bus duty or outdoor supervision.
Evaluation
Performance shall be evaluated in accordance with Board policy and the applicable collective bargaining agreement governing classified employees (ORC 3319.081).
Compliance and Employment Conditions
This position is classified employment under Ohio Revised Code §3319.081 unless otherwise specified. Employment is subject to all applicable provisions of the Ohio Revised Code, State Board of Education requirements, federal regulations, Board of Education policies, administrative guidelines, and applicable collective bargaining agreements.
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of criminal background checks in accordance with ORC §3319.39 and ongoing compliance with licensure, certification, and training requirements applicable to the position.
The employee must comply with all district safety procedures, including requirements under ORC §3313.539 (School Safety and Emergency Management Plans), and all applicable health and workplace safety standards.
