What are the responsibilities and job description for the Staff Accountant position at Whitecaps Professional Baseball?
Who we are: We’re the West Michigan Whitecaps, your 2025 High-A Midwest League Champions and Minor League Baseball’s Organization of the Year! Our mission is to provide affordable family entertainment to the West Michigan community. We pride ourselves on our stellar customer service and our dedication to providing friendly faces, open minds, and our time and energy to our fans. We’ve been here for 30 years and are ready to be here for at least 30 more.
Why we want you: You’re a "numbers" person with an eye for details. You bring real accounting experience, a problem-solving mindset, and the confidence to contribute new ideas. You’re an organized and analytical individual who is comfortable giving and taking direction, and you pride yourself on discretion and communication. You work hard and play nice, and appreciate a good joke.
Why you want to work here: When you join our team, you become a part of our culture and our story – we’re small enough that you’ll have an ability to put your stamp on things. We’ve got an all-hands-on-deck mentality and pitch in when something needs done. We work very hard but we don’t take ourselves too seriously; we realize how important things like office darts and puppy visits and staff happy hours are. Plus, besides the typical benefits, you also get generous paid time off, free baseball tickets (your friends will love you!), paid volunteer time, a free health club membership, and opportunities to get discounted or free tickets to various shows and events in West Michigan. We’re also pretty great people to work with.
What you’ll do: You’ll work closely with Whitecaps management to support core accounting responsibilities across multiple entities. This includes invoice processing, account reconciliations, journal entries, maintaining accurate financial records, and supporting corporate credit card and expense reporting. You’ll assist with budgeting, month-end close, and reporting. You’re organized, analytical, and comfortable handling routine work as well as the occasional curveballs that come with a busy baseball season—while helping strengthen internal controls and improve processes.
What you need: A knack for numbers and the initiative to take ownership of a project. Flexibility, since every day here is different. Prior experience in an accounting role, and/or an undergraduate degree in a business-related field doesn't hurt either.
Let’s do this: If you’re ready to apply, we look forward to getting to know you. Submit your resume and drop us a cover letter letting us know why you’d be a good fit. We’ll be in touch!
