Senior Systems Engineer

At Conning, a Senior Systems Engineer is essentially a senior-level IT infrastructure and cloud engineering specialist. Job Function

• Schedule: 9am - 5pm | on-call during some weekends
• Designing and managing hybrid infrastructure across on-prem systems and Microsoft Azure
• Running Microsoft 365 services like Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive
• Managing identity and access systems using Azure Active Directory (Entra ID)
• Automating infrastructure and operational tasks using PowerShell, ARM, and Bicep templates
• Implementing Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) practices for VMware and Hyper-V environments
• Building disaster recovery and business continuity systems using Azure Site Recovery
• Monitoring system health, performance, security, and compliance
• Troubleshooting complex outages and acting as the highest escalation point for infrastructure issues
• Supporting endpoint/device management with Intune and Autopilot
• Collaborating with security, architecture, and DevOps teams on modernization initiatives
• Mentoring junior engineers and serving as a Microsoft subject matter expert

• Strong focus on enterprise server/infrastructure engineering within Microsoft environments.
• Solid expertise with enterprise hypervisors, with a strong preference for VMware.
• PowerShell scripting/automation
• Partner closely with the security team to support vulnerability remediation, infrastructure hardening, and security engineering initiatives.
• Demonstrated ability to lead infrastructure modernization projects end-to-end.
• Strong Windows Server hybrid cloud engineering experience with Azure exposure (Azure Arc/Automation/Monitor nice to have).
• Experience in insurance/financial services/regulated environments (prefered)
