WCS Healthcare is working with a State-Run Mental Health Organization seeking experienced LPNs and Registered Nurses to join their team on a 6-month assignment. This is an excellent opportunity for nurses with psychiatric, behavioral health, developmental disabilities, or long-term care experience looking for consistent weekend hours with the ability to pick up additional shifts.

- Evening Shift: 4:00 PM - 12:30 AM
- Night Shift: 12:15 AM - 8:15 AM
Responsibilities
- Administer medications and treatments under the direction of physicians, psychiatrists, and other authorized prescribers.
- Provide nursing care to individuals receiving mental health services within a state-operated setting.
- Conduct assessments, participate in risk evaluations, and contribute to the development and implementation of individualized care plans.
- Collaborate with an interdisciplinary treatment team to evaluate and coordinate patient care.
- Monitor and document patient behaviors, mental health status, and responses to treatment.
- Perform wound care and other nursing interventions as required.
- Ensure accurate documentation in medical records and maintain compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Manage the distribution, security, and documentation of controlled substances.
- Utilize therapeutic communication and de-escalation techniques to maintain a safe treatment environment.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies, including crisis interventions and physical restraint situations when necessary.
- Maintain medication, equipment, and supply inventories.
- Provide emotional support and education to patients and families.
- Ensure cleanliness and safety standards are maintained throughout the treatment environment.
- Participate in staff training, professional development, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Delegate nursing tasks in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Assist with psychotherapeutic and rehabilitation interventions as appropriate.
- May serve as a Qualified Intellectual Disability Professional (QIDP) when applicable.
Qualifications
- Active New York State LPN or RN License in good standing.
- Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience preferred.
- Previous experience in psychiatric nursing, behavioral health, developmental disabilities, OPWDD, mental health, corrections, or long-term care settings strongly preferred.
- Strong assessment, communication, and crisis intervention skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Comfortable working with individuals experiencing acute mental health and behavioral challenges.
