POSITION SUMMARY:
The Electronic Medical Record Specialist is responsible for the ongoing build, update/upgrade implementation, maintenance, optimization, and training of the organization’s EMR application, AthenaHealth.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Build, optimize and maintain designated applications in test, training and production environments (all applications).
- Assist with ensuring participation of the appropriate clinical and non-clinical stakeholders in build activities.
- Attend training and successfully complete related projects and tests in order to obtain and maintain applicable certification(s) and/or skills.
- Follows standards for naming and numbering conventions and security classifications.
- Test builds in a structured manner and document results; prepared to accurately represent findings during change control processes.
- Document and accurately report status and progress of assigned deliverables to I.T. leadership and to others as may be directed.
- Remain focused on improving patient safety, quality measures, efficient delivery of care, system security, patient privacy and other areas of compliance.
- Effectively and appropriately present and communicate information/ideas/concepts to individuals and groups in both verbal and visual manner.
- Stay abreast of changing technology, protocols, standards, and guidelines which may impact application build and/or training materials and facilitate changes needed to comply with standards.
- Present and conduct training for end-user groups ranging in all levels of skill.
- Travel to offsite locations to perform job responsibilities.
Education/Experience:
- High School Diploma.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Clinical background, such as MA, LPN, or RN preferred.
- Project , CAPM, or PMP certification preferred.
- Project management experience preferred.
- Experience working with AthenaHealth EMR required.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including PowerPoint and Excel.
- Strong understanding of clinical systems and workflows within a hospital or clinic.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position in an outpatient medical business office setting. Days and hours of work are typically 8am-5pm. Based on business need, the ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekend work as needed.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The person in this position frequently communicates with associates, physicians, and patients. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. Strong verbal and written communication skills required. The person in this position must be able to remain in a stationary position for 50% of the time, standing or sitting. This position requires the use of hands/fingers to handle or feel. Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine and computer printer. Repetitive motion of upper body required for extended use of computers and telephones. Ability to exercise good judgment and positively influence and lead others, including handling confrontations with poise and efficiency.
Work Environment:
This position requires regular and reliable on-site attendance. Environmentally controlled medical environment. Fast paced environment with occasional high pressure or emergent situations.
