Position Summary
The Business Teacher provides students with rigorous instruction in Business, Marketing, and Finance through TEA-approved CTE courses. The teacher delivers hands-on learning experiences aligned with industry standards, prepares students for industry-based certifications, and supports student success in programs of study such as Business Management, Accounting & Financial Services, Marketing, and Entrepreneurship.
Qualifications
Education/Certification
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
Valid Texas teaching certificate in one of the following areas:
Business and Finance 6–12
Marketing 6–12
Technology Applications/Computer Science (if teaching certain courses)
Or TEA-accepted industry experience for CTE certification pathways
Demonstrated knowledge of business, marketing, finance, or related fields
Criminal history background check
Special Knowledge/Skills
Knowledge of TEKS and TEA’s CTE Business, Marketing & Finance Programs of Study
Ability to plan and deliver project-based and real-world instruction
Ability to integrate industry-standard software (Excel, QuickBooks, Adobe, etc.)
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to manage student organizations (DECA, BPA, FBLA) preferred
Ability to work collaboratively with business partners and advisory committees
Knowledge of industry-based certifications relevant to course offerings
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Instructional Delivery
Teach TEA-approved CTE courses in Business, Marketing, and/or Finance (e.g., Principles of Business, Accounting I/II, Business Information Management (BIM), Entrepreneurship, Social Media Marketing, Practicum in Business).
Develop lesson plans aligned with TEKS, district curriculum, and industry standards.
Use instructional strategies that create real-world application, including simulations, case studies, project-based learning, and collaborative problem-solving.
Program & Student Development
Prepare students for industry-based certifications (e.g., Microsoft Office Specialist, QuickBooks, Entrepreneurship & Small Business).
Guide students through coherent Programs of Study aligned to graduation requirements and CCMR outcomes.
Maintain compliance with TEA and district requirements for CTE documentation, safety, and inventory.
Provide opportunities for students to participate in CTSOs such as DECA, BPA, or FBLA.
Support students in participating in internships, practicum experiences, and work-based learning when applicable.
Classroom Management
Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the maturity level of students.
Manage student behavior using district-approved discipline guidelines.
Maintain relevant, engaging classroom displays, student work exhibits, and equipment.
Program Compliance & Reporting
Maintain accurate and timely records for:
Student attainment of industry certifications
Inventory and equipment management
Work-based learning documentation (if applicable)
PEIMS coding accuracy for CTE courses
Collaborate with the CTE Director, counselors, and campus administrators to ensure proper placement and sequence of students in Programs of Study.
Professional Responsibilities
Attend district CTE meetings, campus PLCs, and professional development sessions.
Incorporate current business trends, technology, and workforce expectations into instruction.
Maintain active industry partnerships and community relationships to enhance the program.
Uphold and promote the CTE department’s vision, district mission, and board goals.
Supervisory Responsibilities
May supervise student interns or practicum students
May serve as an advisor for a CTSO (DECA, BPA, FBLA, etc.)
Working Conditions
Mental/physical demands: ability to teach, communicate effectively, manage multiple tasks
Environment: classroom environment with possible off-campus activities for practicum or internships
Occasional evening or weekend activities (student competitions, CTSO events)
