What are the responsibilities and job description for the Journeyman Millwright position at White Mountain Paper Co.?
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Journeyman Millwright to join our dynamic manufacturing team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing complex machinery and mechanical systems across our facility. Your expertise will ensure optimal equipment performance, safety, and efficiency, contributing directly to our production goals. This position offers an exciting opportunity to apply your technical skills in a fast-paced environment while supporting continuous improvement initiatives. Pay highly dependent on demonstration of skills test results, written millwright test results, ability to interact and use common computer programs such as an CMMS system, Word, and Excel.
For MIllwright A Qualification, must perform well on standardized testing.
Qualifications:
- Journeyman millwright skill proven by the WMP JW-A written exam (84 of 120, safety 16 of 20) and a pass on every practical station, or an equivalent documented journeyman qualification White Mountain Paper accepts.
- Be able to make precision alignments and put equipment into precision equipment eonditions
- Independent skill in bearings, shafts, couplings, alignment, pumps and seals, gearboxes, belts and chain, rigging, and fasteners.
- Read blueprints and research machine specific items in documentation.
- Working knowledge of industrial hydraulics and pneumatics: schematics, cylinders, pumps, reliefs, accumulators, contamination, and stored energy.
- Knowledge of fasteners, correct repair of equipment, and correct rigging.
- Ability to read a mechanical drawing, a hydraulic schematic, and a nameplate, and to measure with micrometers and dial indicators.
- LOTO, confined-space awareness, fall protection, and hot-work practice that matches this mill.
- Ability to work at heights, in heat, around a running tissue machine, and inside permitted spaces when qualified.
- Authorization to work in the United States. Employment is contingent on the background check and drug screen the mill requires.
- Must be able to lift 50 Lbs, ascend and descend stairs and ladders, work from heights, operate powered industrial equipment normal in a papermill, work in cold and warm temperature conditions and other environments and conditions in a paper mill.
- Be able to work overtime, and work nights and weekends. Day shift positions and rotating shift positions are open.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Tissue machine mechanical
- Maintain wet-end rolls, couches, breast roll, wire and felt rolls, guides, stretchers, showers, and saveall mechanical equipment.
- Maintain Yankee bearings, steam joint and syphons as designed, doctors (creping, cleaning, and cut-off), doctor holders and oscillators, hood mechanical components, and rope or sheet-handling gear.
- Maintain the reel, spool handling, parent-reel stands, and any rewinder or finishing equipment installed at the mill.
- Support clothing changes, felt and wire stringing, and roll changes. Rig with a plan, a rated device, and a signal person.
- Set and hold mechanical centerlines that operations and quality depend on: doctor load, roll alignment, mechanical equipment setting.
Stock preparation, pumps, and white water
- Overhaul and align stock, white-water, fan, and chemical pumps. Install mechanical seals and packing. Set seal flush.
- Maintain pulpers, chests, agitators, screens, cleaners, and the Beloit GLV or other refiners, including plate-gap mechanics and tramp protection from the mechanical side.
- Repair piping, valves, and expansion joints in stock and white-water service.
- Support broke handling and pulper mechanical systems.
Hydraulics and pneumatics
- Own mill hydraulic systems used on the tissue machine: reel and spool hydraulics, doctor oscillators and loaders, press or roll loading where fitted, and unit power packs.
- Diagnose pressure, flow, heat, contamination, and cylinder faults. Read a schematic. Set reliefs only to the designed value. Do not crank a relief to mask a bind.
- Change filters, breathers, and fluid to the specified cleanliness. Sample oil when the Reliability or lubrication route asks. Keep water and paper fiber out of the reservoir.
- Bleed stored hydraulic and pneumatic energy, lock out the pump and the accumulator dump, and prove zero pressure before breaking a line or a cylinder.
- Maintain pneumatic cylinders, FRLs, and mechanical actuators that position guides, dampers, and doctors. Know fail position before an air outage.
- Work with E/I on proportional valves, solenoids, and pressure switches. The millwright owns the iron, the hose, the pump, and the cylinder. E/I owns the command and the feedback.
Steam plant and utilities
- Maintain mechanical equipment on the packaged steam plant: boiler auxiliaries, feedwater and deaerator pumps, valves, and the Lockwood deaerator and blowdown equipment as assigned.
- Support boiler outages under the mill permit and confined-space program. A drum or tank is a permit space.
- Maintain building and utility mechanical equipment assigned to the crew: air compressors, vacuum pumps, fans, and heat exchangers.
Precision work, reliability, and planning
- Align machines with dial indicators or laser. Correct soft foot. Record as-found and as-left.
- Install bearings, couplings, sheaves, gears, and seals to the OEM fit. Do not hammer a bearing on, do not heat a bearing with a rosebud, and do not contaminate a rolling element.
- Use vibration and oil data with the Millwright / Vibration Technician and the Reliability Engineer. A bad actor gets a cause, not a repeat bearing.
- Write a clear work order. Pull parts through the storeroom. Stage an outage list. Critique the job when it fails or overruns.
- Execute LOTO, try-start, and zero-energy verification on every job. Group lockbox when more than one craft is on the equipment.
- Hot work, confined space, fall protection, rigging, and line-breaking follow the mill program. Stop the job if energy is not controlled.
