What are the responsibilities and job description for the Journeyman Electrician position at White Mountain Paper Co.?
Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Journeyman Electrician/Instrumentation Technicians to join the White Mountain Paper Tissue Team.
Qualifications:
- Journeyman E/I skill proven by the WMP E/I JW-A written exam (84 of 120, safety 16 of 20) and a pass on every practical station, or an equivalent documented journeyman qualification White Mountain Paper accepts.
- Independent skill on various voltage motor control, breakers, motors, and VFDs, including PowerFlex fault finding and nameplate setup.
- Ability to work on electrical power distribution system up to 2300 V.
- Ability to trace Rockwell (Allen-Bradley) ladder and to use FactoryTalk.
- Ability to scale a 4–20 mA loop, set an I/P, and troubleshoot flow, temperature, BTG consistency, and on-off valves.
- Working knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic control devices: solenoids, proportional valves, pressure switches, and stored energy.
- NFPA 70E-aware electrical safe work, LOTO, and confined-space practice. Will not defeat an E-stop, a burner trip, or a boiler low-water cutoff.
- Authorization to work in the United States. Employment is contingent on the background check and drug screen the mill requires.
- Carry up to 50 Lbs., ascend ladders and stairs, operate powdered industrial equipment, and working in cold to hot working conditions.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Ability to work with low voltages to 2300 V.
- Troubleshoot and repair 480 V motor control, MCC buckets, breakers, overloads, and motors on TM6, stock prep, and utilities. Respect high-resistance ground alarms. Do not lift a neutral to clear a fault.
- Maintain PowerFlex and other VFDs. Read the fault, compare current to nameplate FLA, and correct decel, ground-fault, and motor-data errors. Disconnect the drive before a megger test.
- Install and terminate motor and instrument cable so drive noise does not corrupt consistency, scanner, or analog loops. Ground and shield as the standard requires.
- Support transformers, disconnects, and lighting and receptacle circuits assigned to the crew. Do not open a CT secondary on an energized primary.
- Prove absence of voltage with a live-dead-live test.
- Rockwell controls, FactoryTalk, and ParcView
- Trace and troubleshoot ControlLogix and CompactLogix ladder: seal-in, timers, one-shots, permissives, and interlocks. Know the difference between a start permissive and a trip interlock.
- Make controlled online edits with a second person on critical motion, a saved copy, and a test.
- Use FactoryTalk View to see mode, alarms, and setpoints. An HMI write is not a logic change.
- Use ParcView to time a trip: run command, speed, current, interlock, sheet break, and tag quality.
- Calibrate and troubleshoot 4–20 mA loops, I/P transducers (3–15 psig unless the device says otherwise), positioners, and digital on-off valves with open and closed limits.
- Maintain flow measurement used on stock and white water, including magnetic flowmeters (full pipe, ground, empty-pipe faults) and differential-pressure flow where installed.
- Maintain temperature measurement: RTDs on stock and water, thermocouples on the Yankee hood and burners. Know upscale burnout before trusting a pegged temperature.
- Maintain BTG consistency transmitters. A blade meter feels freeness, ash, air, temperature, and velocity, not only bone-dry consistency. Check the lab before condemning the meter.
- Know fail position of basis-weight, steam, stock, and damper valves before an instrument-air outage. Do not open a live loop without knowing where the valve will go.
- Support level, pressure, and analytical instruments on chests, the steam plant, and effluent as assigned, including devices the environmental permit depends on.
- Maintain the ABB QCS scanner traverse, heads, standardization, and sheet-break detection from the electrical and instrument side. Park off-sheet, lock the traverse, and close a nuclear shutter before work.
- Assist troubleshooting of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Maintain the ABB QCS scanner traverse, heads, standardization, and sheet-break detection from the electrical and instrument side.
- Write work orders, stage parts, and critique repeat electrical and instrument failures with the Reliability Engineer.
- Mentor E/I B through E and apprentices on LOTO, meter use, loop checks etc. helping them gain E/I knowledge.
- Confined-space entry, hot work, and fall protection follow the mill program.
