Wheeling University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Theology at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning in Fall 2026. The successful candidate will lead and develop the University’s Theology program while teaching a 4-4 course load across the undergraduate curriculum. Candidates without the terminal degree will also be considered for a non-tenure-track position at the rank of Instructor.
Responsibilities

Teach four undergraduate courses per semester in Theology, including core curriculum and upper-level electives.

Provide academic leadership for the Theology program, including curriculum development and assessment.

Advise and mentor students pursuing degrees or minors in Theology.

Engage in scholarly activity appropriate to a tenure-track faculty member.

Contribute to service at the departmental, university, and community levels.

M.A. in Theology, Religious Studies, or a closely related field by the time of appointment.

Demonstrated ability to teach a broad range of undergraduate theology courses.

Commitment to excellence in teaching, advising, and student engagement.

Evidence of scholarly potential in Theology or Religious Studies.
Preferred Qualifications

Ph.D. (or equivalent terminal degree) in Theology, Religious Studies, or a closely related field by the time of appointment.

Background in Catholic theology and/or demonstrated engagement with Catholic intellectual tradition.

Experience in program leadership, curriculum development, or assessment.

Record of successful undergraduate teaching.

Experience mentoring diverse student populations and fostering inclusive learning environments.

Interest in interdisciplinary collaboration with other academic programs.
